The Tarka Trail is a lot of fun to explore, hire a bike, trailer and all the accessories you could need and explore the long flat route. Lots of eateries along the way! Our fave route is Instow to Fremington Quay and back.

The Tarka Trail is a series of footpaths and cyclepaths (rail trails) around north Devon that follow the route taken by the fictional Tarka the Otter in the book of that name. It covers a total of 180 miles (290 km) in a figure-of-eight route, centred on Barnstaple.

Miles of flat former railway popular to cycle along. Out favourite is to cycle from Fremington to Westward Ho! (via Hockings Ice cream of course) then back.
