The Tarka Trail is a series of footpaths and cyclepaths (rail trails) around north Devon that follow the route taken by the fictional Tarka the Otter in the book of that name. It covers a total of 180 miles (290 km) in a figure-of-eight route, centred on Barnstaple.

This magical and very special 20-acre private garden with three lakes is set in a valley tucked away in North Devon, just a short walk from our cottage. Lovely way to spend an afternoon, especially in the tea room!

The Muddiford Inn, a historic 16th century coaching inn now a family run pub & restaurant, is a real favourite of ours. Good food and drink, a great garden for the kids to play in and dog-friendly. A short drive, or a two-mile walk, from our cottage, the Muddiford Inn is definitely worth a visit.

For one of the best restaurants on the beach in the whole of North Devon, you just have to visit the amazing Beachside Grill. The perfect spot for great food after a long day on the beach at the amazing Saunton Sands!

A firm favourite of ours! The Saunton Sands Hotel is a fabulous four-star art deco hotel in a world class location overlooking three miles of one of the UK's best beaches. Highly-recommended for a couple of sun-downers!
