Prancing Pony Brewery love beer and proudly operate as an Independent Brewery in the Adelaide Hills. They believe in people making beer for people and building a community. The Pony journey goes back when their co-founder and head brewer Frank had his home brew boil over on the stove so badly that Corinna, his wife and now CEO of the Prancing Pony, banned him to the shed as a result. By then, Frank already had a fictitious brewery called ‘Prancing Pony Brewery’ in his head when gluing labels to each bottle he filled. He probably just tried to impress Corinna. Lots of Pony beer was shared with friends and one Sunday afternoon, after a long session, a couple of close friends said, ‘Let’s start a real brewery’. Together, they eventually formed a company with the purpose of bringing the beer we all love to life. On the 1st of December, 2012, Prancing Pony Brewery pulled up the roller door and in 2015, the brewery relocated to a much bigger site in Totness. The production brewery is located at a mere 4 minutes’ drive from iconic Hahndorf, a historic German settlement 30 minutes’ from Adelaide’s CBD. The brewery restaurant is part of the brewery and all brewing processes can be viewed while enjoying a beer and some delicious food. The venue seats 120 guests and there is a large beer garden adjacent to the brewery. The venues is fitted out with rustic furniture, has an eclectic and inviting feel and is family friendly. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the beer garden and they welcome people from all walks of life. They support emerging performing and visual artists and have live music performances and brewery events throughout the year. They are an ‘all grain and all hop’ brewery, which means they brew their beers using malt, hops, yeast and water, only. They draw inspiration from traditional recipes for many of their beers and for others, they incorporate their own interpretation of a beer style and may add non-traditional hops, unusual malts or simply experiment with brewing and fermenting technologies. Common to all our beers is their intention to create long and lingering flavours, beers of high standard and quality and beers that will be remembered. From their session Pilsener to full expedition strength Stout, there is a beer for almost everybody and once you have found a favorite, it is quite possible that it will be replaced by your next favorite Pony. All of their beers have won medals and trophies however, the pinnacle for them was winning ‘Supreme Champion Trophy’ at the International Beer Challenge in London in 2016 for their India Red Ale and best small Australian Brewery in 2015.
