Welcome to "Sumiya Hagakure"! Sumiya Hagakure is located in Ichinomachi, a historic district in Hida Takayama. It quietly stands protected by the stone walls of a temple built by the lord of Takayama Castle 500 years ago. In front of it, the Enako River flows, adorned with beautiful cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn foliage, offering a serene townscape that transitions from a merchant's town to a samurai's town on slightly elevated land.

Kusa no Niwa | 100-Year Machiya Lodge in Takayama

Kusa no Niwa is a traditional Japanese-style house with a courtyard and corridors that was built more than 130 years ago. The entire house with a size of 100 square meters will be lent privately to a single group with a maximum capacity of 6 persons. You will find a fusuma, a sliding door with a paper panel, painted by a famous Japanese Painter, which can be also found in the Taue’s House, an Important Cultural Property, located in Nyukawa Town.
