Let’s go on a walking journey through Tokyo’s unique streets and alleyways where Showa retro—a time period that shaped much of Japan’s modern identity—comes alive. I’ll show you some of my favorite coffee shops, vintage record stores, and drinking spots.
• After meeting at Jimbocho station, we’ll walk to a kissaten, an old-style Japanese coffeehouse, and the beating heart of Showa retro Japan. This enduring blend of Western coffee culture and 1960s and ’70s sensibilities provides the perfect backdrop to chat about this vibrant period in Japan’s history.
• Next, I’ll lead you to some of my favorite shops in Jimbocho for vintage goods, vinyl records, stationery, and retro magazines, where you can shop until Japan’s groovy past belongs to you.
• Eat at a yoshoku restaurant, a western-influenced style of fusion cooking, where you’ll taste some of the most authentic dishes and wash them down with a tasty beverage.
Get a unique glimpse into the Showa era, learn how to spot retro signs and buildings, and take home a few pieces you can’t find anywhere else.
