Once the present courthouse replaced this one, 3 Catholic Sisters of Charity from Leavenworth, Kansas used the building to open St. Mary's Hospital for miners. The hospital briefly prospered before the placer gold was exhausted in. In 1940 Mr. Bovey remodeled the interior as a hotel but little has changed on the exterior from the eighteen seventies.
