Entertainment & Activities

Largest bird sanctuary in southern Africa. Look out for the beautiful Scarlet Ibis. If you're around at 11:00, go and see the spider monkeys (too cute for words).

Arts & Culture

District Six museum celebrates the once lively multi-racial area that was destroyed during apartheid in the 1960s and 1970s, its 60,000 inhabitants forcibly removed. Inside the former Methodist Mission Church home interiors have been recreated, alongside photographs, recordings and testimonials, all of which build an evocative picture of a shattered but not entirely broken community. Many township tours stop here first to explain the history of the pass laws. Displays include a floor map of District Six on which former residents have labelled where their demolished homes and features of their neighbourhood once stood; includes reconstructions of home interiors and faded photographs and recordings. Many of the staff, practically all displaced residents themselves, have heartbreaking stories to tell.

Everything Else

Great for shopping, dining and entertainment. Try the Big Wheel for an all round view over beautiful Cape Town. Apart from Table Mountain and Robben Island, other best bits include the Two Oceans Aquarium; the Shimansky Diamond Tour (top floor of the Clock Tower); Nobel Square with its larger than life statues of four South African Nobel Peace Laureates; Nkosi Albert Luthuli, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, F.W. de Klerk and Nelson Mandela. These four remarkable men fought for their beliefs, even during times of struggle and hardship; Scratch Patch (if you believe in the magical powers of gemstones); and of course a boat tour of the harbour.
