Neighborhoods

Marla Bay is one of Lake Tahoe’s oldest neighborhoods; it is a private lakefront community filled with old Tahoe cabins along with multi-million dollar homes. Marla Bay offers privacy and solitude provided by an abundance of gorgeous pines. Also, there are plenty of open areas that provide breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the western Sierra mountains. Some of the homes date back to the early ’30s and feature a private homeowner’s beach, pier and boat launch. Round Hill Pines, Zephyr Cove Resort, and Nevada beach are all within a few miles of Marla Bay. South of Marla Bay is the Kingsbury Grade area, which includes numerous restaurants and the Lakeview Inn & Casino. Travel to the top of Kingsbury Grade for magnificent skiing at the Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort with the Stagecoach & Boulder Lodges and ski lifts. Another few miles south on Hwy 50 is one of Tahoe’s top Casino/Hotels, ski lifts, a gondola to exhilarating views of Lake Tahoe, ice-skating, first class entertainment and the remarkable Edgewood Golf Course.

South Lake Tahoe, located at the south end of Lake Tahoe and just across an invisible border from the casino’s in State Line, NV, is the primary city in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The cities location is simply beautiful, with the vast blue waters of Lake Tahoe marching off to the north, while numerous tall, snow-covered peaks loom over the city to the south and west. South Lake Tahoe, due to the wide varieties of outdoor activities nearby and the simple beauty of Lake Tahoe, draws in tourists and visitors year-round. As such, the downtown area of South Lake Tahoe can be a busy place during much of the year. However, it is during the summer – especially on weekends – when the city overflows with people and vehicles. Those searching for areas “less traveled” will want to avoid South Lake Tahoe on summer weekends! Owing to its location, South Lake Tahoe is one of the primary cities in the Tahoe Basin for outdoor recreation. The huge Heavenly Ski Resort is located right in the downtown area, with a gondola whisking skiers and sightseers high up into the mountains. South Lake Tahoe also has many marinas and boat launch facilities, and thus serves as one of the primary boating hubs in the Tahoe Basin. The city is also located near some of the finest hiking and mountain biking trails in the Tahoe Basin, too.

Tipps für Reisende

Verkehrsmittel

Bring a car or rent one.

There aren't many sidewalks leading to the store, casinos, ski resort, and main shopping areas so we recommend a car/rental. The beach, near by trails, and some restaurants are within walking distance. We also suggest chains and 4x4 during the winter season. There aren't public buses to/from the area.
Mit Kindern reisen

Enjoy the great outdoors and mini golf.

There are so many outdoor activities for everyone. We recommend taking a walk at the meadow located on Khale and HWY 50 (Rabe Meadows Trail), going to the beach with a picnic, ski/snowboard lessons at Heavenly Ski Resort, an afternoon of mini golf at Magic Carpet, a bike rentals, or water activity rentals.
