Not far "up the hill" towards Troy, NY is this wonderful lake and recreation area. The lake is a popular swimming destination with a well-maintained beach. Two playgrounds flank the parking lot, and there are hiking trails and rowboat rentals are available. There is a fee during the summer season to enter the park. This is a good hike. Parking is at the top of the Petersburgh pass and the most difficult part of the hike is crossing the highway, and the initial, somewhat steep path to the trailhead. The Snow Hole is the remnant of an ancient fault line that is shaded enough that the snow doesn't melt as quickly as the surrounding area. Sometimes snow is still present well into the summer.
