Palo Duro Canyon Trips

Make sure you bring comfortable hiking shoes or tennis shoes that have traction when exploring the trails at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Also, bring plenty of water since there is only one store to buy drinks and the canyons are a big place so chances are you won't be near the store when you need a drink the most! Camel packs are the best things for water when hiking the canyons. Also, bring sunscreen and bug repellent to the canyons with you.

Tips for traveling with kids around Canyon and Palo Duro

Strollers are great to have when traveling around the City of Canyon downtown square or the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum. The museum even provides strollers (and wheelchairs) if needed. For Palo Duro Canyon State Park, a child-carrying backpack is ideal for younger children. Strollers are not recommended since the terrain is rough. Make sure children have tennis or hiking shoes that have traction when hiking the trails. A great trail for younger children is the Sunflower trail. It is fairly flat and is shaded in many areas along the trail. Bring lots of water, sunscreen & bug spray!
