Food scene

Great pizza in central location. In summer, sitting in the garden is a great way to enjoy some sea breezes and a beer to go with your pizza. A two minute walk from our place.

Open Tuesday to Saturday 10-2, we love eating here! Great ingredients, open bench and table style seating so you can have a chat with locals if you like, or takeaway and feel ok that its all wrapped in paper. Joseph, the business owner and sandwich maker is passionate about his sandwiches and quality food. We also love the bottomless drip coffee served with creamer so you can help yourself and not get stuck in a coffee queue.

Ian makes beautiful copper bird and insect sculptures in his studio across the road from the apartment. He and his wife Jan are also rock hounds and have some lovely bits of the earth from all sorts of places for sale - if you like rocks and crystals this is a great shop to visit.

Fun in the outdoors

Such a beautiful lake, surrounded by forest and mountains with wonderful clean water, great for swim or a picnic and multiple opportunities for walks from different access points around the lake. At the main visitor entrance on the road south from Hokitika, opposite the Mahinapua pub there is an awesome swimming spot off the jetty. The water is dark, but don't let that put you off, it is so clean and refreshing (:

Evenings and rainy days

What to do in Hokitika after dark or on a rainy day!
The heart of downtown Hokitika, this community run theatre runs movies, events, shows, town meetings and music gigs. We love watching movies in the large auditorium or seeing an arty movie in the small Reynolds Room theatre. All the latest movies and multiple screenings a day.
