Food Scene

Better to book in advance and ask for the best position outdoor overlooking Vernazza and the water. Belforte is a Middle-Age watching tower. It is one of the best as the location on the cliffs overlooking the sea is just the beginning to a great dining experience. Known for its easy cooking, made of local products and the most famous ligurian recipes.

Parks & Nature

Volastra is located by the wonderful Cinque Terre panorama road, so you can easily reach it by the small local bus from Manarola which runs several times during the day. But my suggestion is to arrive on foot, from Manarola or from Corniglia, as one of the most beautiful hiking trails of the Cinque Terre runs through Volastra. One of the best view on the vertical vineyard of the Cinque Terre

Walking up one of the most beautiful, and historical staircases of the city you will arrive at the Medieval Castle of “San Giorgio”.it is a Genoese military fortification that sits high above the city. The museum of the castle is dedicated to Ubaldo Formentini an acute investigator of history and customs of the “Lunigiana” people. The “Lunigiana (in latin Lunensis Ager) today corresponds to the area between Liguria and Tuscany. The visit proceeds with a prehistoric section where important stone and marble statues stand out, a true symbol of the antique ligurian territory and Provinces of La Spezia. These statues date back to the Copper Age up til the Iron Age.

activity

One of the most captivating itinerary is by kayak. This excursion runs along the coast that separates Monterosso and Vernazza about 3km. The plunging cliffs of the coast are breathtaking. In various points there are caverns of different dimensions. At numerous points the sea has broken the walls of the rocky coastline cliffs causing large masses of rock to slide into the sea, creating smaller rock cliffs that emerge from the sea. To name a few of these famous chasms “Pertuso or Antro del Diavolo” which pass through 70m “La Punta Lina” in Vernazza. WHERE SHALL I GET THE KAYAK? just rent it to any private beach in Monterosso town. You can also find double kayaks by the beach underneath the train station TIME: 1 H (one way) ITINERARY: ALONG THE COAST DIFFICULTY: AVERAGE LENGHT: 3KM

Visite turistiche

(Take the bus “L” from Nino Bixio street in La Spezia, very closed to La Spezia train station. In 25 minutes you’ll be in San Terenzo and you can walk to Lerici, 2km). In summer time simply use the ferry boats from Monterosso-Portovenere-Lerici. Along the promenade of San Terenzo-Lerici, you can find several beaches. The view on the Gulf of the Poets is amazing. Through the centuries, many famous poets, writers and artists spent their holidays or part of their life in the villages of this gulf. We remind some of the famous writers who loved this place: the writer David Herbert Lawrence, the poet Lord Byron, the writer Percy Bysshe Shelley and the Italian writers Petrarca, Montale etc.
