New Lion Brewery is a community owned craft brewery - serving great beer, music and food, varying from Thai, vegan wraps to pizza. Tel 01803 226277 a great place for younger families earlier on in the evening - the brewery has a large play area turning into a great music venue later on in the evening. Something for everyone!

Visit the grounds and gardens ( £1 to park), Green Table Cafe, The Barn Cinema (independent arts cinema) and learn more about the social experiment that the Elmhirsts set up in the 1920’s and it’s existing role as a literary, arts and progressive hub for open minded thinkers. This is often missed by visitors but important to the town of Totnes - The Brutus Stone! If you are staying with children, get them to spot it for you… it’s low down on the pavement as you are wandering up Totnes High Street. England has a spurious connection to the ancient explorer who is said to have founded Britain. A small granite boulder that is currently embedded in a pedestrian walkway; 51 Fore Street, Totnes. According to local tradition, the stone was the first thing Brutus stepped on when he disembarked from his ship, saying, “Here I stand and here I rest. And this town shall be called Totnes.”

Local activity

Whilst in Devon you must try surfing and Bantham is my top tip. The Academy Surf School are great at catering for all levels, beginners with lessons through to just borrowing a board! ‘Surf’s up! ‘
