Accessible from Maine Ave. and Bridge St. in Gardiner (as well as locations in Augusta), this is a fantastic paved trail that follows the old railway and has gorgeous views of the Kennebec River. Perfect for walking, biking, skating, etc. Kid and dog friendly!

In the nearby city of Augusta, this place contains the oldest wooden garrison building in the country. Built in 1754, it is a history museum with plenty of exhibits to admire. The guide is an experienced historian and storyteller. If you love history, you’ll enjoy Fort Western.
