Traditional wooden house from 1870 with a grass roof. Located in the village Eiði, 50 min from Tórshavn. From the cosy living room, you have a view of the summit of Slættaratind - the tallest mountain in the Faroes. Welcome to our cottage! Wifi incl.

Die Unterkunft
Our traditional Faroese house - built in 1870 (almost 150 years ;) but newly renovated - is the ideal place for a get-away.

The first interesting quality you will notice is the grass roof, a feature common to old Faroese houses. Once inside, you appreciate the spacious kitchen and cosy living room; all embraced by characteristic wooden walls.

The house has a double bedroom on the ground floor and two separate loft areas with several mattresses for sleeping spaces. One of the lofts is mainly ment for children. It is the loft that sleeps two.

Outside there is a charming terrace with a wooden hot tub, powered by a fire. And finally a bathroom with a shower.

The house is equipped with brand new furniture and facilities, including a large smart-tv and wifi. The oven, the fridge and freezer is from 2016. The mattresses on the loft is also from 2016. The rest of the furniture is from 2015.

The open loft above the kitchen - accessible with a ladder - has a double mattress and is suitable for two people (children or younger adults), while the larger loft space can accommodate up to 5 people, although we recommend a maximum of 3-4. A curtain can be drawn to separate the larger loft into two sections. It is accessible by narrow and steep stairs.

Zugang für Gäste
You will have access to the entire house; i.e. the living room, kitchen, bathroom, loft, cellar (not much;) and outside terrace.

NOTE!
- Bedding for guest nr. 1 and 2 is included the price. Are you 3 or more people, we charge DKK100 for each person. This is for the bedding (towels & sheets). The reason that only bedding for up to two guests is included, is that there can be up to 9 people in the house, and 9 people requires a lot more bedding than two persons;)

ABOUT THE HOT TUB
You are welcome to use the hot tub, but it is not free, and please note, that it will take you about 4-7 hours to heat it. It is wonderful once it is warm, but some guests feel it takes too long time to heat.

It is unfortunately not free to use the hot tub, because it is a lot of work to clean and make ready to use. So the price is:

The first heating: DKK500
The following heatings: DKK300

There are two ways to heat the hot tub. The easy-way and the not-so-easy-way. If you want to use the hot tub, please let us know if you want to use the hot tub before arrival, and I will send you instructions.

The hot tub is especially enjoyable in the late evenings, regardless of the weather.

Note! It is not possible to use the hot tub in the winter time.

HIKES
There are many beautiful nature trips in proximity to Eiði which we can recommend:

- A trip up to Kollurin where the ice from the ice age has set its marks and where ruins from the 2'nd world war remain. Once at the summit of Kollur, you will have an astonishing view of the giant and the witch, which legend says turned into stone at sunrise as they were trying to drag the Faroes to Iceland. This trip is not recommended for small children due to the dangers when you are on top of it. But If your children listen to you, you can take them up to Kollurin:)

- I can highly recommend a trip up to Slættaratind, the tallest mountain in the Faroe Islands. Put on a good pair of walking shoes, bring a bag with bread, a chocolate bar and some coffee, and embark on your walk up to Slættaratind. The hike to the summit takes around 1 to 1.5 hours from the carpark - depending on your shape, and the round-trip 3 hours in total. As long as you follow proper guidelines the trip is suitable for inexperienced hikers. Please note, that Slættaratindur is not always accessible during the winter or if it is very cold/snow or very wet, because it gets slippery.

- In and near Eiði there are lots of places for you to train your fishing skills ;) It is free to fish on the sea, on the lake in the village and the bigger lake near Slættartind - 10 min. drive from the village.

Eiði, Färöer

The house is located in the center of the small village Eiði. About 600 people live here.

I will definitely recommend a trip around the lake that is located in the village. By the lake there is a new football field (from 2015) and a campsite.

Over the summer they say that 200 swans visit the lake on their way to Iceland - not at the same time though. If you have some left over bread, bring it to the swans and the other birds.

In the village there is a small shop where you can buy everything you need. If you require a larger selection you will find a big supermarket a 10 min. drive away.

The drive to Tórshavn, Klaksvík and the airport are all around 50 minutes.

You will find many beautiful small villages nearby. Gjógv is a must-see. In Gjógv you can dine out in the local hostel Gjáargarður. (Not all year round though - call and hear them).

Other must-see villages and scenery are Oyndarfjørður, Saksun and Tjørnuvík.

I am born in 1966. I live together with my husband in Tórshavn. We have 3 sons. My husband works as a Professor in the local university. I work with courses and conferences in my business, that I have together with my sister. Like most people, I can't live without my family, my friends, my work, good movies, food and music. As a host I would like you to feel welcome to my house. You can contact me anytime, if you have questions or if you need some advice concerning your trip. I try to treat people nice and with respect. And I want to think, that anything is possible, if only you put enough effort into it ;)
