Perfect for family and friend get togethers with huge oak frame and glass kitchen extension. Close to 2 pubs and beautiful walking but also with easy access to A303, The Somerset Levels, National Trust Houses and gardens and Coast.
This is our family home. We have a B&B which we rent out term time but in holidays and for occasional weekends we rent out the whole house for the sole use of guests (up to 9 max - please, we cannot accommodate more). For weekends during term the house is available from 4pm Friday until 5pm Sunday, so you can enjoy a leisurely day here before you leave and not have to pay for the Sunday night.
The cottage is on the Fosse Way in the small hamlet of Dinnington, near the beautiful village of Hinton St George. For eating in, the glazed oak frame kitchen extension can seat 9 and is well-equipped. (Catering for a special event by a professional chef can be arranged.)
There are 3 double bedrooms and a large single bedroom upstairs and a double (which can be made up as two single beds if preferred) with ensuite downstairs. Two of the upstairs bedrooms open onto a shared wooden balcony, perfect for stargazing. One of the doubles has a huge (200 x 200cm) mattress on the floor, but all the others have proper beds. There is a separate wc and utility with washing machine downstairs and a washing line in the orchard. The sitting room has a woodburner and there is wood stacked outside the French doors for your use. The cottage is surrounded by fields with footpaths from the door. For a longer stay, a car is necessary, but for a weekend break, we can give you taxi numbers and help organise grocery deliveries for your stay.
There is plenty of kitchen equipment, a big range cooker and a larder with dried goods and tins, plus oils, herbs and so forth, which you are welcome to use. The fridge will be cleared, but we will only clear one basket of the separate freezer for guests' use, unless requested to do otherwise.
Zugang für Gäste
Guests have free run of the house and garden and orchard except for the top attic floor which we will use for storage, and the mezzanine level in the kitchen, as it currently does not have a balaustrade, so must be locked and inaccessible for reasons of safety. The garden workshop will also be locked. You are welcome to use the outside balcony, but please do not allow young children unsupervised access to it.
Interaktion mit Gästen
We will either greet you ourselves or arrange for someone else to let you in and show you around. Otherwise we can arrange for the key to be left in a convenient place. We will leave an emergency contact number and instructions, maps and walks and useful information about the area, but please do get in touch if you would like any recommendations before arriving. In high season, some places do book up, particularly at the weekend.
Weitere wichtige Infos
There is paved parking for 2 cars in front of the house. Another car can be parked on the road in front of the cottage. We ask for 3 cars maximum so we do not inconvenience our neighbours or the farmers who need to access the fields easily. Bikes can be stored under the balcony or two can be stored in the utility room (when not needed for washing) if you prefer. The lane is narrow and not suitable for caravans or large vehicles.
Please make yourselves at home, but leave things as you found them when you go.
No smoking in the house please (outside is fine).
Do let us know about wear and tear breakages or equipment that doesn’t work so we can repair/replace for next guests.
Please read and observe the rules about the septic tank.
You can bring pets with prior notice but please do not allow them into the bedrooms or onto the furniture (or on the road).
Small babies and teenagers are welcome. We don't ban small children, but the house is not set up for them, so we want guests to be aware that there is a pond and a road and no stairgates or child locks.
Please ask us before booking if you have any concerns about suitability for your children or pets or if you would like a high chair or travel cot to be provided.
The accommodation is for 9 PEOPLE MAXIMUM. Squeezing in extra guests on the floor or sofas is not permitted.
My real name is Caroline, but my nickname is 'Sam'. My husband (Nick) and I are graphic designers, both in our early fifties, and we have 2 children (now 18 and 15). Our daughter is on her 'gap year' in the Far East before studying at university in London this Autumn. Our son is at school locally. We love travelling and have used Airbnb very successfully to explore new places as a family.
We live in a beautiful part of South Somerset close to the border to Dorset and Devon. We moved from London 10 years ago when the children were small and are now very entrenched in our community. This is an amazing part of the UK, a hidden gem, 3 hours from London on the way to Devon and Cornwall, but extraordinarily pretty with easy access to breathtaking countryside and coast as well as Bristol, Bath and Exeter. Over the years we have done a lot of work on our old cottage and have completely transformed it. We are very proud of what we have done and where we live and would like to share it with others so have decided to become Airbnb hosts ourselves.
Our interests are reading (lots of books in our house), gardening, cooking and enjoy all things 'design'. We are native English speakers (but also speak French). We love travelling and meeting people from all parts of the world and learning about new cultures and countries. Our children seem to have inherited our 'itchy feet' and want to see the world too!
