A peaceful organic farm that raises rare heritage livestock. Come relax and enjoy all we have to offer!

Die Unterkunft
THE FARM
We raise and sell rare heritage livestock, jams, jellies, pork products, as well as the eggs from our free-ranging chickens. Organically-grown heirloom vegetables, fruit, and pecans are also grown here at the farm. Blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries are sold fresh seasonally and year-round in our jams.

THE HOUSE
As a guest you get to enjoy the entire first floor of the original farmhouse (minus the kitchen) with private front door entrance. This includes exclusive use of the living room, dining room, full bathroom, and wrap around porch. A miniature refrigerator/freezer, microwave, and small library of books is available to you.

THE BEDROOMS
The Civil War bedroom contains a queen bed, and the Barnyard bedroom contains two twin beds. Each bedroom is furnished with snugly Virginia-made iron beds topped with high-thread-count sheets, a vintage handmade quilt, numerous pillows, remote controlled ceiling fan and light, and vintage-style room-darkening roller shades.

AMENITIES
Whether you prefer coffee, tea, or just plain spring water from our well, a fully stocked beverage station is available to you with breakfast. We offer a Keurig® Brewing System (adult-use only) with an assortment of coffees and hot beverages.

We provide a miniature refrigerator with freezer and microwave if you would like to bring your own beverages and snack foods. ** Guests must provide plates and utensils needed for eating food brought to the farm.**

For our guests' comfort and convenience, we also provide bathroom towels, curved shower rod, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer. Forget your razor or toothbrush? No worries. We can provide most personal items that you may have left at home!

PETS
If traveling with a well-behaved pet, please contact us BEFORE booking as pets are approved on a case-by-case basis. Aggressive breed dogs (e.g., pit bull terriers, staffordshire terriers) are not permitted (no exceptions). We do charge a flat fee of $25/pet. If pets are left alone in the house, we require that they be crated. Due to the free ranging animals here at the farm, we also require 1) that dogs be kept leashed when outdoors, and 2) be under the guest's control at all times.

CHILDREN
Our home contains many glass antiques and family heirlooms and is NOT child proof. For this reason, we are NOT a safe or suitable location for children 5 years old and under.

Since a farm can be a dangerous place, ALL guests must follow the Farm Rules posted in the house and be respectful of the animals who call the farm home. Running, yelling, or screaming in the house is strictly prohibited. Chasing, taunting, or hitting the animals is also strictly prohibited. Parents must be in control of their children at ALL times.

FREE WIFI
We do provide free WiFi service for those travelers wanting to access the internet. Many guests have used our B&B-dedicated WiFi service to attend online classes and meetings.

FARMHAND PROGRAM
Guests staying more than 1 night may opt to participate in our Farmhand Program. This includes a guided tour of the farm plus you can lend a hand with a variety of farm duties that vary depending on the season, such as:
- Collecting eggs
- Socializing baby piglets (when available)
- Tending to newborn chicks (when available)
- Milking the cows (when available)
- Feeding and watering chickens, rabbits, cows, and pigs
- Planting or harvesting in the organic gardens
- Harvesting pecans
- Picking fruits from our orchards

Farmhand Program starts between 3-6pm (depending on time of year) on your second day with us.

If you chose to participate in our Farmhand Program, just message us via Airbnb. You will be billed a one-time fee of $60 via Airbnb (that must be paid prior to arrival). This covers ALL guests in your party and occurs on the second day of your stay. Our adult guests have enjoyed this program as much as (if not more than) the kids! Children under 10 years old also receive a "Certified Farmhand" certificate to show their friends. Make sure to some bring closed-toe shoes.

ACTIVITIES
If your visit is based on the availability of a specific activity, email us in advance to ensure it is available (e.g., harvesting vegetables). Activities vary per time of year.

FOOD
We have happily provided a laminated comprehensive list of local Places To Eat to purchase food. Most provide food pickup options due to the pandemic. We suggest searching our area prior to arriving to ensure your dietary requirements can be met.

CLASSES - SUSPENDED DUE TO PANDEMIC
We offer a variety of classes, such as soap making and canning. Our series of food preservation classes encompass canning, freezing, pickling, and dehydrating. Want to learn to preserve your own food? Come take a class with our certified Master Food Preserver and learn how to preserve some of nature's bounty! If interested, let us know at time of booking and we will send you our price list. Payment is required for classes in advance of arrival.

Zugang für Gäste

Lage

Red Oak, Virginia, Vereinigte Staaten

The historic Old Crowe Farm is a 132-acre pasture-based sustainable farm and educational outreach nestled in the rolling hills of south-central Virginia. The farm sits on a 496-acre tract of land that was actively farmed in the mid-1800’s by John Nelson Bruce, Sr. (b.1812). During this time period, Charlotte County was composed primarily of self-sufficient farms and plantations. Many families in 1800’s Virginia owned slaves and raised many crops consisting of corn, hay, soybeans, wheat, and tobacco. A two-story log cabin on the farm is rumored to have been home to one of these slave families when the land was owned by the Bruce family. The cabin is made of hand hewn logs with clay daubing, hand-made square nails, and V-shaped notching at the corners. The cabin is a truly individual and distinct creation made out of local materials by local people. Preservation activities are currently underway with this cabin and plans are to furnish it with artifacts from that period. The numerous tobacco barns located on the farm also serve as constant reminders of days past.
