Our homestead is a peaceful oasis nestled in the mountains of eastern Vermont. Get away from it all, yet be close to everything Vermont has to offer year round! Minutes from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and King Arthur Bakery/School in Norwich.

Der Wohnraum

Nestled on a wooded hillside at the end of the road, our newly renovated home has four available guest rooms--two single occupancy bedrooms on the second floor, and two double occupancy bedrooms on the third floor of the house. We also have a cabin listed through airbnb which sleeps up to 4. Each bedroom is listed separately on Airbnb, so if you are interested in more than one room, or a different sized room, please see our other listings.

This bedroom listing that you are viewing here has a twin bed, and is located on the second floor, just steps from the upstairs bathroom. All rooms include bed and bath linens, and access to two full bathrooms (one with a large stall and rain-shower, the other with a deep soaking tub--we also have a lovely outside shower available during warm months). A self-serve breakfast of locally produced foods is also included in nightly rate.

Our open living/dining room area is naturally well lit with views across the valley and woodlands. The house is sited above the confluence of two streams, and has a large south-facing deck, screened porch and stone patios, offering space for relaxing or working outdoors. High speed internet and wifi are available, but no television. Cell coverage is poor at the house, but a land line is available for domestic calls.

We have a friendly Corgi, a shy Great Pyrenees, a rescue poodle-ish pup and one gentle cat. Many wild birds visit our feeders year round. In the summer, our house is surrounded by perennial and vegetable gardens, and a growing orchard on the hill above.

Our property is adjacent to the Appalachian Trail Corridor and is contiguous with Land Trust and town forest, offering access right out our backdoor to miles and miles of trails for walking, hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing. Each season offers opportunities to glimpse wildlife and birds.

We are located 9 miles from the I-91/ I-89 interstate junction, within a short drive to Dartmouth College/Hanover, NH, Woodstock, VT, as well as many ski areas and local attractions. Driving times from Boston: 2.5 hours; NYC: 5 hours; Montreal: 3.5 hours. Public transportation from Boston, New York and Burlington/Montreal (trains and buses) are available to nearby White River Junction. You will need a car to get around, as much of Vermont and New Hampshire is rural with little to no public transportation. There are a number of rental car agencies nearby in West Lebanon, NH/White River Jct, VT. There are many restaurants within a short drive (15-30 minutes).

We hope you will consider our home, Solheim ("sunhouse" in Norwegian) for a beautiful Vermont mountain retreat within easy driving distance of many northern New England attractions and activities year round.

Zugang für Gäste

All public spaces in house, all gardens and woods on our property. Use of kitchen if guests would like to bring personal food in and prepare own meals.

Interaktion mit Gästen

Guests are warmly welcomed to our home. We will be in residence during your stay, but you determine how much you want to interact. We orient you to the house, and are available to answer any questions. If you prefer to have privacy or less interaction, feel free to come and go as you please. If you enjoy some conversation or a shared breakfast with us, we are more than happy to engage--we've met many wonderful people through airbnb!

Weitere wichtige Infos

During the winter months, Vermont roads require at least snow tires. Many people have 4 wheel drive vehicles, or use studded snow tires. Our road is well-maintained by the town, but it is a typical Vermont mountain road--it may be a challenge without good snow tires or 4 wheel drive until the plow comes through. If you have any questions, please ask!

This spot is truly a gem. I really didn't want to leave! Surrounded by such beautiful scenery, so many gorgeous trees and plants in the garden, such lovely interior decorating, and tucked into my cozy little guest room, I felt like I was in an oasis. I slept exceptionally well on my comfortable bed. Oh yes, and the homemade granola for breakfast was a perfect way to wake up. Such a great place to stay overall-- I really can't stress that enough. I also should mention I didn't have cell phone service (AT&T) in the area around the house, but I can't complain. I think I liked this B&B even more for that reason!

I had a very lovely stay with Alex and Martha. They have a beautiful home that I immediately felt comfortable in and welcomed by all (including their fabulous and friendly pets). Upon leaving they took time to show me their extra cabin that they offer for up to four guests. Will definitely book it and come back with some friends for a weekend getaway there! Can't thank them enough for their hospitality and I hope everything turned out okay with the two kittens they rescued during my stay :)

Awesome. Added a night . Found everything as described in positive reviews. Thrilled to find as promised, cats are kept out of rooms & linen storage. I had no allergy problems!! Hosts are convivial - loved them both. Will return when in the area. Nancy

Everything positive you’ve read in other’s reviews I experienced. Worried about cat allergies? Don’t be. As promised the room was cat-free & linens are stored in cat-free area. Even common areas proved no problem. Never once used inhaler. Awesome!!! Fortunately, I’m not allergic to dogs so enjoyed loving them. The hosts affable nature’s & warmth make this Airbnb a place I’ll definitely return to when in the area. Nancy
