Die Unterkunft
Bright, light, airy and sparkling clean. Completely private third floor suite of two bedrooms and one full bathroom. Crisp new linens, furniture, lighting, USB chargers, two mini refrigerators, microwave, dishware and silverware provided. Very comfortable double bed in the front room and single bed in the back room; table, chairs, couch, workdesk and chair.

It is up four flights of stairs, so if you have a big heavy suitcase be prepared for a bit of a workout :)

Speaking of workouts, if you like to walk, bike or run this neighborhood is ideal -- we are on a plateau at the top of a hill, it's a flat 2 miles to the Pitt and CMU campuses and hospitals in Oakland; a flat one mile to Shadyside and Chatham University; about 1.5 to Frick Park and Friendship and about 3 miles to Bloomfield. Lawrenceville is down the hill and Squirrel Hill is up the hill. The Allegheny River runs through the valley (obviously) to downtown and from Oakmont and points North. I think the house is about four miles from the Great Allegheny Trail Access in Lawrenceville. You can safely store your bike in my backyard.

Turning left from the front garden and heading straight up my street or any of the parallel streets will take you to to Highland Park, which is slightly uphill on the way there - it offers a loop and outdoor exercise equipment. There and back is about 2 miles, per Google maps. Round the loop, add another 2 miles. 27 minute walk, per Google maps. 4 minute drive.

On the way to the park, be sure to check out Bryant Street's 6 restaurants (Italian, Japanese, American, Brazilian, Thai and French) and unique shops, which forms part of a pleasant walk through shady neighborhood streets with interesting architecture and colorful gardens. Note some of these are closed on Mondays, and the pandemic makes hours and menus slightly different from normal so please check.

Bryant Street is a walkable neighborhood treasure; it offers a small local market (The Bryant Street Market) that is very well stocked mini-market with fresh daily bread (Mancini's, a Pittsburgh legend), fresh fruit and vegetables, drinks, candy, local ice cream, local high end chocolate, local honey, local pickles from the Pittsburgh Pickle Company (try the Fire and Smoke if you dare) high quality deli items (they do delicious made to order sandwiches), and locally sourced, high quality ice cream and dairy.

Highland Park, a short walk from the Bryant Street Market, also offers plenty of cool shady picnic spots, a children's adventure playground, a formal garden and wooded pathways to feel close to nature. Good sunset watching spot by the reservoir. Wend your way back checking out the many architectural styles and awesome homes to dream about. North Euclid Avenue is the shadiest walk and has stop signs or roundabouts at every intersection.

Zugang für Gäste
Share front yard, front porch, entryway, first and second set of stairs. Your private space is accessed through a door and up two more flights of stairs. The door can be latched from your side. Check-in is 3 pm to 8 pm.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
I do have a dog but you probably won't even know he is here. Quiet hours are between 10:00 pm and 7 am; of course, you may come and go as you please, quiet hours just mean I won't play Led Zeppelin full volume or stomp about wearing hobnail boots during those hours and I'd appreciate it if you didn't either. Please, only registered guests in the house. Thanks!

Lage

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Vereinigte Staaten

Charming historic residential district booming with house rehabs, new construction, walk-to Bryant Street, Penn and Center shops, restaurants and Highland Park's quiet wooded pathways. Very close to The Pittsburgh Zoo, Bakery Square, The Frick Museum, Carnegie Museums.

Walk to bike rental dropoff/pickup; very close to Pitt, CMU and Chatham universities, museums, galleries and all University of Pittsburgh Medical Center hospitals and doctors. Ideal neighborhood for walking and biking, house and neighborhood located on a high flat plateau with plenty of close-by hills to climb and descend if you need cardio.

If you head right when leaving the house, Highland Park is a twenty minute walk, and offers a traffic-free walking/running loop, lots of cool shady picnic spots, a place to see the sunset, a children's adventure playground, a formal garden and fountain and quiet wooded pathways where you won't even know you are in the city.

On the way to the park, be sure to check out Bryant Street's 6 restaurants (Italian, Japanese, American, Brazilian, Thai and French) and unique shops, which forms part of a pleasant walk through shady neighborhood streets with interesting architecture and colorful gardens.

Bryant Street is a walkable neighborhood treasure; it offers a small local market (The Bryant Street Market) that is very well stocked mini-market with fresh daily bread (Mancini's), fresh fruit and vegetables, drinks, candy, local high end chocolate, local honey, high quality deli items (they do delicious made to order sandwiches), and locally sourced, high quality ice cream and dairy.

Bryant Street also has some amazing and award-winning restaurants, all offer takeout and outdoor dining. We have Park Bruges (Belgian-French style); Joseph Tambellini (classic American-Italian); Park Place Pub (six packs to go); The AppleWood Smoke Grill (burgers, salads, chicken sandwiches); The Smiling Banana Leaf (Thai); Teppanyaki Kyoto (Japanese); Casa Brasil (Brazilian).

There is also a higher-end ladies' clothing store, Panache, selling comfortable, casual clothes and stylish hats, jewellery and accessories. There is a lovely independent bakery, Food Glorious Food, (they have hot fresh breakfast quiche) and round the corner on Euclid street there's an Italian ice, custard and espresso shop, La Scola. Check Google for opening times. Mondays tends to be the "closed" day for independents around here, however, if you call ahead of time, they may make exceptions for you.

If you head left when leaving the house, you will get to plenty of shopping and more restaurants, including Starbucks (Eastside is our closest pickup), Target (with a Starbucks in it), CVS, Walgreens, DekaLash, WholeFoods, PA Fine Wine and Good Spirits, FedEx, more restaurants and bars most offering outdoor dining and all offering takeout, independent local favorite Mad Mex (very airy, the whole front opens up and wonderful artwork inside); Patron Mexican Grill, with colorful and vibrant decor; Bird on the Run (chicken sandwich options range from no heat to hot AF and Insanity - yes, that's on the menu) plus adult slushies to go - if you go with any kind of heat on your sandwich, you may need one; The Milkshake Factory and Gaby et Jules, delicious French pastries, croissants and Macarons. There's also Indian takeout chain Choolah, the Brew Dog Pub, and another lovely French place, Paris 66.

Penn Avenue near East Liberty Presbyterian Church (which has a beautiful rain garden) also offers some independent shoes and clothing stores that have a rich history of being in the neighborhood through thick and thin, a key cutting place, a dollar store, Jamil's unique ethnic store, and so much more! You will just have to get out and explore, if that's your bliss.

A slightly longer walk, crossing the bridge at Wholefoods, you will find a unique shopping district on Ellsworth Avenue featuring antiques, vintage clothing, some restaurants and pubs. If you walk along Ellsworth and make a left up a few blocks, you can get to Walnut Street in Shadyside, which is my personal all-time shopping favorite. Restaurants, clothes, makeup (Sephora), the unique Kards Unlimited, and M-nails, and two amazing children's toy stores, Shadyside Variety Store or Randalls Toys and Gifts, GAP, and Banana Republic.

If you are shopping on Walnut Street, you can see Pitt's Cathedral of Learning (tallest educational building in America) and if you wish to continue walking up Ellsworth Avenue to Pitt's campus you will reach the Oakland district, offering the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Schenley Park, and much more.

A short drive or bus-ride away across the river in the Aspinwall neighborhood is the Waterworks Open Air Mall which a bunch of chain retail and THE best burger for my money is at Burgatory, with a build your own option that just unbeatable. Oh, they also have adult milkshakes to die for.

A short drive or bus-ride also takes you Downtown, to the SouthSide, or Squirrel Hill, all walkable neighborhoods with too many shopping, restaurant and bar options to list here.

If you need an actual Mall, Ross Park Mall is the best option, IMO, offering Nordstroms, Macy's, Kate Spade, Louis Vuitton, Juicy Couture, Banana Republic, Gap, and much more.

Während deines Aufenthaltes
I am available by text or phone during normal business hours (8:30 to 5). We may run into each other in the shared spaces, normally I like to say a quick hello if we are both there at the same time, just to be friendly and make contact! I do try to maintain social distancing and we can all wear a mask in the shared spaces if it makes you feel more comfortable, although typically I don't wear a mask in my house. Currently, I clean the shared space doorknobs, light switches, water cooler tap, handrails and other surfaces with a bleach-based cleaner at least once every day. If there is anything you need while staying here, do not hesitate to reach out and ask!
