About the Cedars...
In the late 18th century, Belper was the nailmaking centre of Britain, with over 500 nailers working around the town. The ‘Nailmaster’ of Belper, Abram Harrison, built himself a
grand house on a small farm between Jedediah Strutt’s mill
village and the town of Belper, and this house, originally
called ‘Field House’, is now known as The Cedars.
The parkland, walled gardens, and cedar trees once
surrounding the house were long ago reduced to the present half an acre of mature formal gardens and terracing - a peaceful retreat of trees and lawns in the historic heart of
Belper.
The Cedars has a colourful history: A Silversmith lived here
at the turn of the century; a judge owned the house before
the First World war; it was strafed by enemy planes in WWII;
the house became Belper Clinic after the war, and after a
period in the 1980s as the HQ of a local building firm, The
Cedars became the Headquarters of Deb Chemicals PLC.
In 1996, Neil and Ann Wayne took on the task of turning this
last of the great town-houses of Belper back into a family
home. There were no bathrooms, no kitchen, all fireplaces
were long gone, the cellars lay unopened since 1921, and
much of the original Regency character and detailing had
been lost from the interiors.

At The Cedars, we endeavour to offer you a real “home from home” rather than an ordinary “B&B” or a soul-less hotel room,
and look forward to welcoming you into our family home. We’ll be happy to show interested guests around the rest of the house, (including the large cellars) and to suggest the best walks and drives for exploring!
We welcome you to The Cedars. this heritage-rich area.

We serve fine 'full English' breakfasts, and welcome guests to enjoy our reading area within the dining room, full of Derbyshire history and Tourism literature and maps. We are on call most days, and evenings, since we live in a separate area of the house.

For our business guests, we provide a Scanner and email service, telephone lines and full WiFi Internet Connections. There is ample parking on the rear stable yard,
and The Cedars is close to the town’s shops, pubs, restaurants,
Churches and many other facilities.

The Cedars is a lovely b&b, close to the station, high street and restaurants. In the room Neil kindly supplies a map of Belper, with the notable pubs and restaurants marked on it, in the room. Which was very handy for a first time visitor to the area. All in all a well situated place to rest ones weary head.
