The Cottage is located about 2 1/2 miles from the center of Edgartown but conveniently located between the three towns of Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Located right on Line #1, the main bus line. My neighborhood is quiet -- a mix of local small homes and new, elegant homes -- a taste of the Vineyard today!

If you love walking, biking -- trails abound by the Cottage. Kayaking is a few minute away if you bring your own or right across Sengekontacket Pond if you want to rent!

The 2017 season is about to start on the Vineyard. I am looking forward to a year as nice as 2016, thanks to my wonderful guests, making it one of my favorite times to host! I'm looking forward to my returning guests!

I want you to be comfortable and safe during your stay but please note that I am not a professional setting and provide simple amenities. Kindly make sure that my home provides for you, the space that fits your needs.

My home is the perfect spot for people who come to enjoy the beaches, towns and biking afforded by the Vineyard.

Please note:
I am unable to host children under 14 years of age

There is a two-night minimum.

Please! you cannot eat or leave food in your bedroom but are welcomed to use the kitchen/deck for snacks. Please feel free to store your snacks in the kitchen (space available!). This year, Alice, my dachshund is 14. She has been a fixture at the Cottage since I began hosting 8 years ago but does love to try to find food and chocolate if we are not careful. She has been sickened seriously a couple of time and I want all of us to enjoy your stay! Thanks for helping me out.

The Cottage is a charming Cape Cod-style home on Martha's Vineyard and has one bedroom (queen-sized bed) available for single or double occupancy for minimum 2-night stay. Located between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven it is right on the main bus route and bike path connecting you to the ferry or the two town centers. The quiet neighborhood and completely private beautiful cottage garden offer a chance to relax in the hammock after a day of sight-seeing and the large deck is perfect for a glass of wine before going off to dinner or just hanging out, whether for breakfast or during the day and evening. It is minutes away from Sengenkontacket Pond where you can launch your kayaks! It is a 15 minute bike ride to State Beach and Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and the State Forest are easily reachable along the beautiful bike path between my house and the towns, The main bus line runs right past my street! By late June, the gardens are up and blooming! The garden is designed as a haven for a variety of birds (including hummingbirds!) butterflies (and bees) which you can enjoy watching from the deck or hammock. Each year, new additions are made to enhance its tranquillity and beauty. Visiting with guests is always a treat as interesting conversation spontaneously arises!

Wifi throughout the Cottage is available. Parking is readily available at my home.

The guest room and bath are a comfortable, sunny downstairs space for two guests (maximum). THE COTTAGE IS PERFECTLY MAINTAINED with daily cleaning and beds prepared with freshly ironed sheets prior to your arrival. A FULL BREAKFAST is included each morning which includes a variety of fruit, juice, homemade breads, eggs if desired, and tea/coffee. WIRELESS INTERNET, AIR CONDITIONED BEDROOM AND AMPLE PARKING ARE INCLUDED. Weather permitting, guest are asked to use the fully-enclosed hot/cold water outdoor shower, a Vineyard tradition! It features hot and cold water and is fully stocked for your convenience with body washes and shampoo.

Check-in: from 2:00 p.m.
Check-out: 10.30 a.m.

Please note that the kitchen is not opened for cooking but certainly, you can leave a few drinks or snacks in the 'fridge! Guests are asked not to fully stock the refrigerator!

Please note that you must be 22 years or older to book. I am unable to host children under 14 or family pets. Two night stay is requested.

I do not recommend my location for guests with mobility issues unless you have a car. As noted the bus stop is a 5 minute walk from my home and from there, you can travel directly into Edgartown or Vineyard Haven on Line #1.

Zugang für Gäste

You are welcomed to use the sitting room, deck and garden.

Breakfast is the time when we can visit while I serve. I strive to give guests as much privacy as possible when they are in the Cottage.

Weitere wichtige Infos

As the Vineyard has suffered the stresses and strains of a busy tourist island, we do strive to be ecologically minded. Septic systems have caused significant lagoon pollution and so we do shower outdoors as noted.

I have been awarded a grant to restore the Cottage! It will be an exciting year to work towards going green, updating the structure, preparing to live and work on the island, providing intervention services for the interesting and dynamic people who live year around.

But! if my home suits your needs, you are surrounded by Land Bank and Sheriff's Meadows Trustees walks, a place to launch your kayak onto Sengekontacket Pond (5 minutes down the road by car) and a tranquil, private spot to relax!

I do ask guests to be respectful of furnishings. Having hosted so many people, I want to make sure that everything is in beautiful order as well for you!

Please remove your shoes before entering the kitchen; slippers and socks are welcomed!
Maximum 2 persons/room

Please! Don't think us difficult! The Cottage is going green. We do ask that guests help us by limiting shower-time to 10 minutes, especially as it is understandable that you might need to shower twice daily after the beach or other summer sports. Also, all wet items must be hung in the bathrooms or if you prefer, dry your personal towels and wet bathing suits in my clean, aerated basement that features a dehumidier. It molds easily here in an island environment. NO food or drinks (except of course, water!) are absolutely not permitted in guest rooms.

Please! Give me one or two days notice as to when you will be arriving so that I can be here to meet you. It is not recommended that you bike to the Cottage for the first time, from the ferry at night. The entire path is not lighted; buses and taxis do transport bikes -- two per bus on the front bike rack.

Nancy Rose's home is very quaint and comfortable - I felt like I was in my own home. Nancy responded to my questions immediately and even reached out to confirm that my travel was still on track and to let me know that she was flexible with my early arrival. Nancy provided tips on how to get around the island and places to see based on my limited time there. The best part of staying there was the great conversation over breakfast! I hope to stay there again next year.

Thanks so much for the lovely review. As I noted, a guest such as yourself makes hosting an absolute pleasure. . .a lovely way to begin to wind down. And do contact me in the future! Be well and safe!

I don't really care to write a public review, as it would sound too cruel. No TV, no liquids, no shoes, no privacy. I would just like a refund or at least some of my money back. We left almost as soon as we got there, didn't stay one night because it would have ruined our vacation. I would appreciate if AB&B would help get a a refund.

Hi Tim. I appreciate you taking the time to write this review. Certainly, it is your opinion and I would like to respond. When you booked, I asked, as I do all of my guests, to please read the full description and to let me know if you had any questions. I do this to make sure that guests understand that they are staying in a private, small home on the island. All of my home rules are listed and amenities, including the fact that I have no TV. Guests come to enjoy the Vineyard; most guests automatically ask if they should take off their shoes as a courtesy and certainly, guests are allowed to keep water for bedtime -- glasses are available and my well, brand new, provides pure, cold water which can be kept in your room -- I provide coasters on the night table next to your bed. Privacy curtains can be pulled across the small hallway to your bath and bedroom. I live here alone with my small dogs who accompany me everywhere; we retire upstairs by 8 in the evening after I set the table for your breakfast, which includes home-made baked goods. I believe that you cancelled another reservation on airbnb at another time before you arrived to stay with me on the island. I do not know the circumstances of that other than you said you changed your mind. Certainly, this is your prerogative but essentially, you have left a review that does not comport with the facts (as indicated on my listing). Perhaps, if you had informed yourself more carefully (I always respond to questions quickly!), if you had read reviews, which are numerous, I think you could have avoided your disappointment. There are many choices on the island, particularly this time of year. I host people from all walks of life and from all over the world. I cannot meet everyone's expectations but the vast majority of people who have stayed with me, have had enjoyed their experiences. Perhaps, if you had tried even one night, you might have enjoyed a different experience. This was home stay, not a hotel stay or a fancy setting. I believe that the wealth of reviews I have received, while not all 5 stars, certainly attests to my attempt to make people feel safe and comfortable. All best wishes to you and to Susan. Nancy

We just returned from our fifth trip to Nancy's quaint abode! (Six, if you count her Venice apartment we visited last November). What can we say?! It was so great seeing her again. Besides Alice, her adorable (and more senior) pooch, we had a pleasure of meeting her two new pups, Tulia and Cleo. They're just as adorable and lively!

I am an American-trained speech/language pathologist who worked for many years as a specialist for hard-to-diagnose learning disabled children in New York. I am the creator and director of Inglese Dinamico, an English teaching project that was located in Venice, Italy for nearly 15 years and President and co-founder of Partnerships for Learning and Teaching (non-profit), an educational project dedicated to research and development of best teaching practices with special emphasis on challenged learners and dyslexia and also cross-cultural/multi-lingual integration across multiple subjects.
As of May 2017, I have returned to live and work full-time on the island to participate in the dynamic learning community for challenged and non-challenged learners and ELL.

Our home on the Vineyard is a special place for guests who wish to enjoy the beauty and vitality of this incredible island. Instead of just 'the playground for the rich and famous," the Vineyard is a microcosm of America -- its strengths and weaknesses. Come and be a part of it! I have enjoyed the guests who brought the world to my doorstep since 2010, I am now only hosting Airbnb guests as I enter my 8th year of hosting and have had the pleasure of over 1000 visitors, some who have been kind enough to come several years in a row!

Please disregard our appearance during the coming weeks as we give the Cottage a facelift. Your room and breakfast will still be ready for you!
