Lage

Belgrad, City of Belgrade, Serbien

Short walk away is Kalemegdan fortress, number one sightseeing place. I recommend a long walk with visits to Military museum, Saint Petka's church and maybe the Zoo. If you get tired, you can take a brake at Kalemegdanska terasa restaurant.

Just a walk away you can find famous bohemian quarter Skadarlija, a perfect place to have dinner or lunch (the most renown restaurant is called Three Hats). If you further explore the area around Skadarlija, you’ll get to Strahinica Bana street, the most prominent café street. I recommend Stelina for cake lovers, Supermarket to those who prefer fashionable places, or Insomnia to the cool ones.

As for a stroll outside City center, opportunities are various, but if you're visiting in summer don’t miss out bike ride to Ada, the so called "Belgrade seaside. It is more than 5 km of beaches, with many places for eat or drink.

Don't expect too much from Belgrade museums as National Museum and Contemporary Arts Museum are closed for reconstruction. Sometimes I’d tell my guests it's the World economic crisis to be blamed, but that was in 2008! The whole truth is political parties are not able to reach agreement on reconstruction plan and that’s why Serbia has no National Museum for the time being. One of our typical stories.

You can visit Ethnography Museum though, Military Museum, Nikola Tesla Museum or Tito Museum, which is actually a mausoleum. What's curious about it is that Tito’s grave hasn’t any Communist symbols engraved, although he was Party devoutee for all his life. Perhaps he had finally enlightened to what my father still hadn't - that the so called Communism was the biggest joke and biggest tragedy in history.

Anyhow, Belgrade is friendly place for visitors and most of the guests feel here at home, which is the whole point. It is not yet invaded by foreigners like Prague and Budapest and that's what most guests like - they feel Belgrade is still authentic, fresh and has cosmopolitan spirit.

I'm a father of two grown up kids, fan of Baroque music, French new wave movies and mountain trekking. I'm a writer and playwright and have my own business. But what's most important, I have my peace of mind. I found it years ago in practice of Falun Dafa (a Chinese yoga). I can teach you if you like. It's free. Valuable things can not be bought with money.
