The Charyn Canyon (Sharyn) is a canyon stretching for 154 km along the Charyn River in Kazakhstan. The canyon is located 195 km east of Alma-Ata, near the border with China. The canyon is included in the territory of the Charyn National Park, formed on February 23, 2004.
Charyn Canyon is a natural monument composed of sedimentary rocks, the age of which is about 12 million years. The height of the sheer mountains of the canyon reaches 150-300 m.
