Der Wohnraum

My husband and I created the 'studio' from an old adobe cow shed seventeen years ago when we moved on to the property. We fell in love with this tranquil hidden valley as soon as we crested the hill and saw its beauty with the back-drop of Glorietta Mesa, the largest mesa in North America.

The wooden plank floors are all original and we put the spiral staircase up through the hole in the ceiling where the hay used to be pushed down to the cows. A new roof with skylights creates a welcoming sleeping space and the super comfortable queen size bed and two futons allow up to three people to stay.

The thick adobe walls and shading from the big 'grandmother' cottonwood tree keep the house cool in the summer. Base board heat and the option of an antique wood cooking stove keeps things very cozy in the winter.
We added the 'atrium', which also helps keep the house warm in winter and is a lovely place to sit in the early mornings and evenings during the summer.

There is only a minimal grocery store close by and no restaurant closer than Las Vegas, so you will need to bring your groceries. We provide all organic breakfast sundries, local organic farm eggs, coffee and tea and plenty of cookware and utensils. Local bio-dynamic farm goat milk is also available by request.

We are available most of the time if you need help with something and are happy to point you to places to go in the area like the historic Pecos Valley National Monument and Villa Nueva State Park, which has a beautiful hiking trail and fishing in the Pecos River.

If you want more activity, you could go to the hot springs at the United World College in Las Vegas and then visit the gorgeous Dwan Light Sanctuary and have a romantic dinner at the newly renovated historic Plaza Hotel. For Longmire fans, visit Sheriff Longmire's office on the Plaza and then mosey over to JC's New York Pizza and shoot some pool or go bowling!

For outdoor adventure go visit the alpaca's at Victory Ranch, take a Vision Quest horseback ride at the Spirit Ranch or climb Hermit's Peak.

Everything you'd expect from a traditional bed and breakfast. We spent most of our time in the nearby towns, but the property itself was beautiful and relaxing. Everything makes you feel right at home.

What a glorious respite from my busy life. The farm is set in 33 acres of green, right on the Pecos river, with an acequia (creek) running close to the casita building I stayed in. Grandma Cottonwood tree, standing tall for at least 200 years, was a wonderful to sit in and listen to a variety of birds and the occasional contented sigh of a horse. The double adobe is rustic, spacious while being cozy, and very comfortable . I reveled in the freedom of no wi-fi, no clocks, sleeping wonderfully in the firm and comfy bed. Plenty of room to do some yoga in the loft bedroom as well. A lovely selection of breakfast goodies was provided by Mahara: fresh eggs, raisin bread, fruit, coffee, teas, cream, and an assortment of milks. I hiked up the rocks across from the farm to behold a beautiful and tranquil view. One of the highlights was bathing in the Pecos River and having a spontaneous mud treatment, private except for a Great-Horned Owl, who escorted me out of the trees to the river bank. So much wildlife to see. And lots of footprints in the mud by the river: Great Blue Heron, raccoon, deer, just to name a few. I ended up staying an extra night as two nights was not enough. It was one of the most relaxing and rejuvenating things I've ever done for myself and I will be returning often. :~)

I had a wonderful time at the casita - a great combination of rustic charm and modern conveniences. The location is perfect - it has the rural quiet and yet it's a few miles off Route 25. It's a short walk down to the Pecos River where you can wade or swim. There were beautiful sunflowers waiting for me in the casita and some breakfast items, including fresh local eggs. Mahara was very friendly and helpful explaining everything when I checked in. It was the perfect quite, relaxing weekend I was looking for!

I have been in alternative healing since 1989, starting as an Acupuncturist. I am now a Quantum Biofeedback specialist, Bio Optic Holographer (a form of Iridology) and an independent Bemer distributor. I live in the country with my husband, 3 horses and 2 cats. I love playing with horses and train with the Parelli method. I'm an artist/designer and have a small business I'm mostly vegetarian and eat organic.
Although I grew up in England, I've lived in New Mexico, USA since 1989.
I changed my name from Mahabba to Mahara in early 2016 (in case there is any confusion in looking at reviews from my journeys to France!)
