Our mountainside home is an architectural gem, bathed in light, with views of nature from every angle and floor. Sitting at the northern end of the Shenandoah range on 5 acres of meadows and trees, it is just 65 miles from downtown D.C. A swimming lake, the Appalachian trail, Virginia wineries, antique shops, restaurants, Skyline Drive, and Shenandoah National Park are all a short drive away. The property’s outdoor amenities (hot tub, hammock, and porches) will invite you to sit and relax.
Nicknamed "tower house" by the neighbors, this 1400 square foot home was designed by an architect from an award-winning Bethesda, MD firm. It offers an open floor plan and tree house aspects, with separate semi-private spaces to sleep and lounge. If you are a larger group, make sure all members are comfortable with the open flow. The entry level features a great room with living, dining and kitchen spaces. The main bedroom above looks out to the trees and has a curved loft-style railing and view of some of the floor below. The top-most floor has a sitting room/bedroom with desk and European-style (read: modern and efficient) bathroom. It also has a viewing room with extraordinary floor-to-ceiling views. Each of these two rooms has a sleeper sofa, and the viewing room has plenty of seating for your group and can be shut off for privacy on cooler nights. There are definitely spaces to which you can escape and hole away.

On the drive up the mountain, you'll face your toughest assignment: should you take the western route, passing the famous Apple House BBQ joint and its old-style ice cream stand, or the eastern route past the farm stand with fresh vegetables and pies? (This is not a personality test.)
Our cat Bob is a part-time resident. Although Bob won't be there when you are, this house is not ideal for those with cat allergies.
Feel free to use refrigerated condiments and pantry staples.
We'll post more pictures of the house soon.
Well-mannered pets are welcome. Please clean up after your dog. Please do not touch the guitars.
My fiance and I work in DC and enjoy escaping to the Virginia countryside. We've had so many great airbnb experiences, and want to share our home with you.
