Not knowing this part of Spain very well, the booking itself was somewhat of a leap in the dark! However the immediate contact back from Colin, and subsequent emails rapidly assured us that the choice was a good one!
Without doubt the villa itself far exceeds any possible write up! The location and views are simply fabulous. Being slightly out of town, the villa itself was lovely and peaceful, on the days we wanted to relax by the pool you did feel away from it all. One highlight was watching the shooting stars, (Perseids meteor showers), on a warm night and in a huge black sky!
We were all very comfortable, and survived the very hot first few days!! (with some help at night from aircon!) It is a wonderful villa in a special location, and the pool area with the Indian daybed is a super space! Everything we needed was to hand and the kitchen well equipped to prepare meals.
We also were delighted to find the area relatively unspoilt, in Alora I did hear some tourist voices, but it really felt like a proper Spanish town with proper shops and the traditional way of life, (and siesta!). After a quiet few days we got about a bit more, visiting Granada for a couple of nights, and more locally, Ardales lakes, Bobastro ruins, Teba, Ronda, and of course wandering around Alora itself. Perfect!
The Caminito del Rey was not to be missed and we were very lucky with our visit, as it had been shut due to high winds the day before. What an incredible walk, we were really lucky to get into the earliest slot before the heat of the day.
Restaurant wise, there are many small restaurants locally to choose from, most were small and simple, but the food quality excellent, we ate in some local restaurants several times during our stay, but the temptation to eat outside with the views was too good!
Importantly we were met on arrival by the wonderful Sue who is was lovely and very helpful if we had any questions, although everything ran smoothly, it is reassuring to know she was around.
If you are seeking an interesting and restful stay in an as of yet unspoilt part of Andalucía, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa.
