We are in the Exmoor National Park on the coast and right in the centre of the beautiful village of Lynton. The house is just a short walk away from a host of antique shops, bars, restaurants and tea rooms. It's great for couples, solo adventurers and families. From Lynton you can walk down to Lynmouth - the view across the sea to Wales is spectacular. Maybe enjoy a real Devon cream tea or fish and chips on the beach and then take the cliff railway back up the cliff to Lynton.
The Old School House dates back to around 1850 and was originally the headmasters house for the nearby primary school. The house is little changed after 170 years. Of special interest is the beautiful staircase with walnut balustrade and local Exmoor slate floor that runs throughout the kitchen. We have endevoured to compliment the character of the house with furniture of a similar period. This is our first season so the house is freshly decorated with new carpets and appliances throughout. Despite the fact that many rental cottages on Exmoor allow dogs we decided to make our house a pet free zone simply because many people prefer to stay in a house that hasn't been rented by people with dogs.
We provide towels and bed linen. There are two bedrooms, one with two single beds and a master bedroom with a king size bed.
We provide free broadband with wifi. Television is Freesat giving you access to an extensive selection of national and regional programmes.
There is no telephone but mobile phone reception is good with ee which I use and I think most networks are ok from the house.
The central heating and hot water is on constant and in the interests of saving energy please turn the radiators down or off once you feel comfortably warm.
The kitchen has a wood burner which is easy to light using a firelighter and some dry wood. We leave some wood to get you started and most of the local shops sell bags at reasonable prices.
On your arrival you will find coffee and tea on the table and some fresh milk in the fridge.

Please use the whole of the house and let us know if there is anything you feel we could add to make your stay more comfortable.
FOR YOUR SAFETY Please take great care when using the Wood Burner - always use the fireguard - close burner door once alight and whenever leaving the room.
The Central Heating radiators can get very hot. To aoid risk of scalding make children aware of this and turn the thermostat on each radiator down to reduce heat.

Cost Cutter and One Stop are useful corner shops located a few hundred yards away on Lee Road. Apart from groceries they also sell logs and firewood.
We can recommend The Rising Sun by the harbour in Lynmouth and The Blue Ball Inn at the top of the hill going out of Lynmouth on the A39 heading towards Porlock.
We do not allow the charging of electic or hybrid vehicles using The Old School House electrical supply. Electricity is provided via a prepaid meter only for normal usage - e.g. cooking, lighting etc and is topped up before each new guests arrival.
The Old School House is an historic building so please treat it with respect so that future generations can enjoy the experience. I'm sure you will ..... Steve
