This three bedroom home is located in rural East Sooke, just a 45 minute drive from Victoria-but a world away. Spectacular views across the straits, a few minutes from one of the premier hiking parks in Southern Vancouver Island, a refuge of peace and quiet.
This architect designed home was created entirely from recycled wood-mostly glue laminated fir beams, and has an open living area design, furnished with an informal, eclectic mix of contemporary, West Coast and mid-century modern. There are three bedrooms, two with queen sized beds, one with built in bunk beds. Almost 1200 square feet of deck space (almost equal to the living space!) allows for a complete walk-around. The house is built on posts-some windows look into the treetops, almost creating the feeling of being in a tree house.
There is a fully equipped kitchen (but no microwave or dishwasher), complete with coffee/tea, condiments etc. A washer and dryer is available for laundry. There is no TV or wifi-it is “unplugged”. If you need to check emails or access the Internet, there is wifi available a few minutes away.
Zugang für Gäste
You will have the entire house to yourself. You’ll share 150 acres with 3 other houses-and reasonable quiet is both provided and expected. The deck is available for sitting, eating (there’s a table and BBQ on the deck) and admiring the view.
Interaktion mit Gästen
Depending on your arrival time, we will likely be there to greet you and give you a sense of the area. We have arranged for neighbours to be available if needed (and we will be available by phone should you wish to contact us). We live in town, but are happy to respond to any questions you have and give you suggestions of things to do in the area.
Weitere wichtige Infos
We charge an additional $20 per ADULT for more than 4 adults-no extra charge for kids (maximum six people, including kids). The website automatically charges extra for children (we cannot change this programming) so please let us know if you should not be charged for kids and we will make adjustments to the booking.
Toddlers are welcome, but parents need to be aware it is not a risk free environment. The house is not "child proof" (e.g. cleaning materials and cooking utensils are within toddlers' reach), and we don't have a cot in the cottage. There is an unprotected wood stove, as well as an area on the deck which has no railing.
The house is wheelchair accessible (access is by a ramp, and most doorways allow a wheelchair to pass)-but it does not have wheelchair accessible bathrooms. If accessibility is important for you, please contact us for details.
There is poor cell phone reception (some phones roam to Washington’s AT & T), but a land line is available for your local or long distance (to 60 countries) use.
If you are coming in the cold season, you’ll need to use the wood stove to help keep the house warm, and supplement the electric heat. There is dry wood and kindling-if you aren’t familiar with wood stoves, we’ll be glad to provide some tips.
