We are a family in Wavell Heights in a large modern 2 storey house with 3 bedrooms available downstairs; the downstairs area has been recently renovated with a separate kitchen and bathroom/toilet/laundry with 2 large living areas and a relaxing garden at the rear.
There are tiled floors for easy maintenance (except for carpet in the bedrooms), air-conditioning in two of the bedrooms and a modern bathroom.
It is fully furnished, with a queen sized bed in one room and double beds in the other two rooms. The kitchen is equipped with an oven an stove top, microwave, fridge/freezer, and cooking/dining utensils etc. The main living area has a pair of couches and a TV.
We're on a quiet street, but close to everything you could ask for:
- Bus stops are about a hundred metres away;
- Chermside Mall is about 5 mins away;
- A quick drive to The Prince Charles Hospital;
- Not far from Brisbane Airport or the Brisbane Entertainment Centre; and
- Close to ACU too.
The main language in the house is English, but one of us speaks Cantonese too.
Zugang für Gäste
You'll have almost the entire floor to yourself (we have a separate entrance and laundry, other than that it's all yours), we share the outside areas, but seldom use the rear garden/bbq area.
Interaktion mit Gästen
We give our guests that space to enjoy our place in privacy. Please let us know if there's anything you want to know, or need help with.
Welcome to our house, and thank you for staying with us. To try and make your stay easier, we thought we'd list a few details about a few features of the house:
Children and Infants:
We are happy to accommodate guests of all ages and count everyone who stays with us as a guest for charging purposes.
We live upstairs, and (although we have a 10 year old boy) we try to keep our noise to a minimum, particularly after 8:30PM, and we would really appreciate it if you could do the same out of respect for us and our neighbours.
No Smoking, Drugs, Parties, Commercial Use
Please respect that this is a completely no smoking property, that's anywhere on the property. Our bedrooms are directly above the rear of the property, so the smoke goes straight into our bedrooms from the BBQ area/garden. We will be forced to evict anyone who can't respect this with no refunds or warnings, but hope we won't have to bring it up. To protect our family and our neighbours, we are also unable to tolerate drugs, parties, or provision of any commercial operations on the premises, and will take similar action if needed.
Please respect that the premises are purely for residential stays: for insurance reasons, and to minimise the impact on our neighbours, we cannot allow guests to provide commercial services from our house, or use it for commercial storage.
Animals and Wildlife
To keep the place fresh, we're unable to host pets or animals of any kind (the only exception is for genuine certified assistance animals e.g. blind-assistant dogs or similar). Yes we consider birds to be animals, just as much as your pet elephant.
If you use the side gates, please ensure that they are latched closed, otherwise local animals will come for a visit, and may get trapped inside.
There is a stream next to the street behind our house. At certain times of year this stream attracts mosquitoes; particularly at dusk. Please keep the insect screens closed. You may need to use insect repellent if you go outside when mosquitoes are around.
In case you get any other 6 legged or winged visitors, we've supplied some spray; we don't recommend eating anything you have sprayed, even if it's been cooked (it tastes weird). The spray isn't supposed to be spectacularly effective for sharks or larger crocodiles, but we'd love to hear how you go.
The birds get up early in Queensland, They chirp, squawk, and make various other noises. We have asked them to keep it down, but they don't seem to be very cooperative in this regard.
We make WiFi available for our guests so you can stay in touch with your email etc, but our link isn't suitable for heavy use (video or audio streaming, etc.).
If we're around when you're leaving, please let us know, and we'll come down to collect the keys; otherwise, please just leave them in the white bowl on the kitchen bench, and lock the door behind you.
We may have other guests arriving on the day you leave, so we'd appreciate it if you could leave by 10am so we have time to clean and change the linen before the next guests arrive. If you need to stay a bit longer, please talk to us. If there's nobody else coming that day, we're generally fairly relaxed.
There are air conditioning systems in the 2 side bedrooms, please only use the air-con when you're actually here.
Most of our guests don't stay long enough to need a change of sheets, towels, etc, but please feel free to wash them if required. If you would like our help, just let us know.
The washing machine is dedicated to your use, washing powder is provided under the sink in the laundry. Please sprinkle a scoop of powder/liquid directly onto the clothes (not in the tray, if you put it in there it just makes a sticky mess on your clothes) you won't need fabric softener, the washing powder we provide has it included.
There is a washing line at the rear of the house. If it's raining heavily we do have some clothes racks available on request. Sorry, we don't have a dryer in the house (Yes we looked several times really carefully for one, and no we don't have a secret one we keep just for our own use).
The stovetop has a child-safe lock on it (please still don't let children play with it, they smell bad and make a lot of noise when they burn their fingers): To turn off the child-lock, press the lock button until the light turns off; To turn it on again press the lock button and the light will turn on.
The fan can be a bit noisy when the oven is running (and cooling down).
To turn on the range-hood, pull it towards you. There are controls for the fan and lights.
There are tablets etc under the sink, or if you prefer, we have also supplied dishwashing liquid for manual washing (please don't put dishwashing liquid or laundry powder into the dishwasher, it will flood the house).
Queensland uses Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST): GMT + 10 hours. Unlike most of Australia, Queensland doesn't use daylight savings (it's traditional to insert your own joke here about curtains fading, or cows getting confused about milking times).
This means the sun rises early, especially in summer. We have not been able to do much about it yet, but you're welcome to try.
To get you settled in we provide an initial supply of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, fruit, cereal, soap, laundry powder, etc to get you started. If you need more, we're happy to let you know how to find Chermside Mall (Woolworths and Coles Supermarkets, and pretty much everything from an optometrist to a bowling alley and an Apple Store).
Sorry, there's isn't one. If you're really keen, we have a spade and a hose though…
Please park on the road in front of the property, we generally recommend that you avoid parking under the tree because although it provides some shade, you might not like what drops out of the tree.
There are 3 rubbish bins, please make sure rubbish goes into the right bin:
•Yellow: Recycling (cardboard, recyclable plastics, etc);
•Green: Garden Waste (no food scraps). A few of our neighbours use this bin if theirs is full, so don't worry if you see them dropping their grass clippings etc. in there;
•Red: General Waste (everything else) please make sure the rubbish is in plastic bags to keep the bin clean and the odour down.
Maintenance and Breakages
Please let us know if anything needs our attention.
