My house is a couple of short miles from Hilo town and offers, quite simply, the best ocean front view possible. You will look down upon crashing waves and out across the Bay to Hilo and to the surfers gliding down the silver waves. The view is dramatic but relaxing. During whale season, this is the best possible location for viewing. Sometimes they come so close you can look into their eyes. The house is fully equipped and air-conditioned. . The Cottages At Volcano - Hale Alala

Surrounded by the rainforest of Volcano and situated just outside of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, our cozy cottage offers a welcoming place for some rest and relaxation between adventures. Hale 'Alalā is named after the highly endangered hawaiian crow whose reintroduction efforts have been focused on the forests around Volcano. While there are no longer any Alalā living in the wild, you can see a pair of live Alalā just down the road at the Panaewa Zoo (free admission).

This house was built by my grandfather 30 years ago, and has retained the charm and warmth that he crafted into this cozy cottage.
