I am a certified Nature and Forest Therapy guide operating out of Brighton and Hove. I run guided walks which are designed to help people explore their own unique relationship with nature, through a series of sensory activities. Each walk is different, as it is very much led by the participants as much as it is by the guide. The activities also differ based on what nature has to offer on the day.

Walks will typically last 2 to 3 hours and participants have a chance to share their experience with each other through a series of prompts that are offered throughout the walk. The experience ends with tea under the trees, often made with plants foraged on the trail. Depending on the season, I also prepare snacks made from foraged plants.

This is not a naturalist walk, a hike, nor a foraging workshop, even though I have an interest in all those things. It is more an opportunity to slow down and explore your own connection with the natural world.

Forest Therapy (or Shinrin-Yoku, as it's called in Japan, where this practice originated) has been proven to lower blood pressure, lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels and to improve our mood. Guests will likely leave this experience feeling refreshed and relaxed. This is also an opportunity to visit some of our local green spaces at the edge of the South Downs national park, where guests can continue their walks if they wish.

I am a certified Nature and Forest Therapy guide and I received my certification in 2021. I have a background in Anthropology and I am a keen forager, so I am always learning and exploring how different cultures relate to the natural world. I also practice Ninpo martial arts, which is a Japanese practice very much aligned with the principles of Forest Therapy, so I have a lot of experience with embodiment practices.

Nature is and has always been my temple, it's where I feel at home and I decided to become a Forest Therapy guide because I want to help people reconnect to the natural world, which is something we are forgetting how to do as a society. I have found this practice to be really helpful for dealing with the stress that modern life throws at us and I love bringing people together to experience nature's gifts.

Wo ihr sein werdet

The location may vary, but it's usually a local woodland easily accessible by public transport, no more than 25min travel from the city centre. There is a little bit of uphill walking required to get to the woodlands, but once we are there, there are easy trails to follow.
