Was ihr unternehmen werdet

I’ll meet you at the train station, and we’ll walk through the old center of The Hague to the Mauritshuis. It’s a small but exquisite museum—a treasure trove of Dutch art. To name just a few highlights, Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Rembrandt’s Anatomy Lesson of Doctor Tulp, or Carel Fabritius’ Goldfinch.

The Mauritshuis is gorgeous yet intimate. No crowds, no risk of overload. I’ll tell you a few secrets of famous paintings and show you lesser-known gems. We’ll talk about how the artists worked and about the exceptional time they lived in. The Dutch Golden Age shaped our society in many ways, and we’ll look at it through the lens of art.

After the Mauritshuis, I’ll take you for a stroll around the historic center of the city. We’ll see the impressive medieval fortress Binnenhof, the residence of the Dutch king, the spot of a notorious murder, a hidden courtyard… But also a lively shopping area, cosy cafés, and if we’re lucky, a famous cat. We’ll have some Dutch apple pie from my favourite café. Feeling adventurous? We can taste fresh herring before that.

The Hague is a quaint mix of relaxed art-de-vivre, old history, and vibrant business life, with many international organizations and startups. To end on a modern note, we can have a drink at a skyscraper’s rooftop bar.
Other things to note
- The weather in The Hague is unpredictable, so please consider bringing an umbrella (the second part of the experience is outdoors).
- Please note that suitcases, trolleys and other travel luggage are not allowed at the Mauritshuis. They can be checked in at the Central Station (for a fee).

I am a Russian-French art history buff. Before Amsterdam, I lived in Paris for a long time. I’ve always loved Dutch paintings: maybe because one of my ancestors was a painter and a Rembrandt’s student?.. Anyway—I’m like a kid in a candy store at the wonderful art museums of Amsterdam and The Hague. I’m excited to share them with you!

To me, artists are storytellers. I actually MA’ed in literature before becoming a certified tour guide. I also worked in journalism and marketing. I don’t do academic tours. I tell stories about paintings, which bring them to life.

Art is a magnifying glass. What we see through it is up to us. It's about people and places, big events and small secrets. You can hear artists talk to each other through centuries. I help you investigate art and reveal what it says—openly or between the lines.

Wo ihr sein werdet

We’ll visit the Mauritshuis museum, located in a historic 17-c. mansion.

In the center of The Hague, we’ll see some historic ladmarks: the medieval fortress Binnenhof, the royal palace, the old Town Hall, and other historic and modern spots. We'll also stop by a cafe.

If you come by train, I’ll walk you from and back to the station. If you choose to stay longer, I’ll be happy to give you some insider tips on what else to see and do in The Hague
