A delightful grade II listed cottage situated on the A6 in the village of Milford. The cottage is perfect for a get-away, The village has good pubs and restaurants and is only a short drive in to the Town of Belper and Derby City or why not make use of the fantastic public transport links to explore the Peak District.
Our Cottage is Grade II listed and retains many of the original features but also has the benefit of modern comfy furniture and smart TV and WiF.
With-in the Neighbourhood there a 2 good pubs the King William in Milford and the famous Holly Bush just 10 mins walk away in Makeney. There is also a 2 restaurants The New Inn serving traditional pub food and some more A-Le-Cart style dishes and the SOI on the wirer an International buffet style restaurant. There are plenty of walks through the countryside to explore.
  • Beautifully decorated house but great shame that the wood burning stove does not work. The extremely low door frames and stairs caused considerable inconvenience and we were unaware of this as there was no mention of them in the description. Lots of road noise and the bus stop directly outside the house were a disappointment and inconvenience. The bathroom leaks into the kitchen.

    Christophe2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage which would suit one or two people visiting this area. A local bus service stops outside and there are lots of places nearby to visit- we particularly enjoyed Matlock Bath and Keddleston Hall. The cottage looked like it has been recently renovated, but retains its low doorways, beams and exposed stonework- you have to watch your head but it gives it character! We parked our car just down the road near the church, a mere couple of minutes walk away. The two charming pubs nearby were great for evening drinks and we ate at the White Hart in Duffield, which was really nice.

  • Jennie and Dirk are friendly and thoughtful hosts, and went the extra mile to ensure we had a lovely experience staying with them. The place was characterful and we appreciated the special touches such as the fresh garden flowers dotted around the property, and the fantastic selection of food left for breakfast. As a young family of 4, we were well accommodated for, and the children really enjoyed it too. Many thanks Jennie and Dirk!

    Clare2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed there on two separate occasions- Great well equipped accommodation with lots of extras. A short distance (up hill) from Belper centre where there is lots to do. Lovely views over the garden and Jennie and family were helpful. Will book again. Thanks Jennie and family.

The annexe is absolutely amazing - so clean, warm and deceptively spacious! The thoughtful touches didn’t go unnoticed, and the breakfast was a wonderful extra which started our days off brilliantly. I will definitely be returning in the future, as the location was ideal. I would highly recommend.

  • Amy's house is extremely stylish, super clean and was perfect for our break in Derbyshire. It had everything we needed and is in a great location. We would definitley use Amy's house again for future visits.

  • Myself and my husband had the most amazing weekend at Amy's gorgeous cottage. We were in Belper for a friends engagement party and we couldn't have been closer to the centre of Belper if we tried. Amy's place is beautiful, immaculate and extremely well positioned for the pubs and restaurants of the town. The cottage is extremely well equipped with everything you need for a time away. The lovely kitchen/diner opens up into a sunny courtyard which we were able to enjoy and there is a parking space out of the fornt which is great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage and I know that we will be staying here again when we are next in Belper!! Thanks Amy!!

    Jane2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amy's place is like a tardis - small on the outside but surprisingly spacious inside! Very convenient location for Belpher, just off the highstreet, but with the bonus of a parking space right outside the door. Check in was easy, even when we arrived quite late in the evening.

Chapel Mews is one half of a Grade II listed former chapel with great views over the surrounding countryside. It has a large open plan living/dining room and kitchen with antique table and comfortable sofas. 2 good sized double/twin bedrooms. Belper town centre with shops, restaurants, pubs and a cinema is within walking distance. Easy access to all areas of Derbyshire/Peaks. Very good WI-FI.
Our 2 double bedroomed, grade 2 listed former chapel makes for a lovely stay in the historic Derbyshire mill town of Belper which has great amenities and transport links to The Derbyshire Peak District. We have furnished with a mix of vintage and modern pieces and a few cosy touches to make you feel at home. The ground floor is a spacious, open plan space with tall 3m high ceilings that you might expect from an old chapel. The kitchen is very well equipped with a range cooker, microwave and dishwasher and plenty of crockery and utensils. There is also a coffee machine and we provide free tea and coffee. There are plenty of books, a few games and a smart TV to entertain you during your stay. We also have Wi-Fi with a very good signal. The open staircase that leads from the rear of the ground floor has a big window that offers great views and there is a galleried landing at the top. Upstairs the large master bedroom has a super king size bed that can be split into 2 singles (just let us know if you need it making up as single beds). The second bedroom has a comfortable standard size double bed and benefits from views over the surrounding countryside. Both bedrooms are big enough to accommodate an infants travel cot which we can provide on request. There is a double sofa bed in the living room for which we provide bed linen on request or for bookings of 5 or more. There is one family bathroom with the shower over the bath. The shower has good pressure and is on a hose so can be lowered for those who don't want to wash their hair every day! Outside, there is a small decking area at the front of the house with garden furniture so you will be able to sit outside with your morning coffee or a nice cup of tea and maybe a old beer or glass of wine in the evening. Free on-road parking is directly outside the front of the chapel and there is space for more than one vehicle within a few metres with no parking restrictions. If you travel by public transport Belper train Station and the main bus depot are less than a mile away. We send out further information on local restaurants and places of interest when your booking is confirmed and are always happy to help with any special requests. There are books and maps with plenty of Derbyshire walks in the chapel when you arrive. The Wi-Fi signal s also very good for you to research the area further.
Belper is a lovely historic Derbyshire mill town and the chapel is only a 10-15 minute (uphill) walk from the town centre which offers independent shops, restaurants, pubs and the art deco style Ritz cinema. The river gardens with play area is also popular with all ages. There are lots of places of interest and things to do locally which makes this a great base to explore Derbyshire from.
  • Sarahs converted chapel really is a gem of a place. Very cosy and comfortable with lots of lovely personal touches. We would highly recommend a visit here.

    Valerie2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is secluded with great views but within 10 minutes walk to the shops and restaurants in Belper. Inside, the chapel is very clean, interesting and comfortable. The hosts have thought of everything the visitor may need for their stay. Well recommended

    Paul2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I stayed at the converted chapel for three nights and we couldn’t fault a thing. Belper is lovely and has some terrific views-even from the kitchen window! Sarah (the host) was superb with communication throughout our stay and has really done a great job in designing a beautiful AirBnB home. We are already planning our next get together and hope to stay here again in the future.

    Georgina2018-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's place was comfortable and well-located for our bridal party in the days before our wedding.

    Kate2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely easter break in the Chapel which was ideally situated to access the wonderful places in the area. Spotlessly clean with thoughtful touches, Sarah was a super host and quickly responded to any questions we had. We found the list that Sarah had sent us of places to eat and see very useful indeed.

    Louise2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay in Chapel Mews. There was everything you could need in the house. Kitchen was fully kitted out to cook any meal. We were staying with an infant so took advantage of this and didn't venture out too far in the evenings but the sitting room was very comfortable to enjoy a glass of wine or two ... Large supermarket nearby to get any bits needed. Beds were lovely and comfortable. The chapel was decorated nicely and felt very homely. The pictures don't do it justice !! It's even better in person. Quiet location but very close to the village to shops restaurants and take aways. Hosts were lovely. Great communication before and during trip. Also have a very thoughtful guide book with tips on what to do in the area made up. Sarah mailed this over in advance which was very handy. Would definitely recommend and will stay again next time we are in the area.

    Rachel2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • I contacted Sarah on the same day checking in, very last minute but she accomodate anyway (which is great and we appreciate it). Sarah's place is amazing and comfy and perfect for us. Though the location is a bit far from the city but we liked it and as soon as we get to the house, the driving just paid off. Thanks, Sarah :)

  • The house was exactly as described. It was very clean and well equipped, there was everything we could have needed and more. It was just perfect for us. Comfy beds and fluffy towels - I wished I was staying longer! Situated on the edge of town, quiet and just a short walk to the town centre, its also a good base for exploring the Peak District. Sarah was very helpful, friendly and replied promptly whenever I contacted her. I would highly recommend.

Great communication from Barry and easy check in. Close to some lovely walks, we did the high peaks trail and visited Lumsdale falls. Will be looking to return.

It was a great base for walking in the Peak District and we enjoyed visiting the nearby pubs and restaurants, or sitting in the lovely garden in the evenings. • This was a a lovely, clean space in a nice location. Only drawback was that the noise from the pub next door on the Friday and Saturday was quite noticeable.

  • Lovely space (cute beams on the ceiling, sweet wooden doors, gorgeously done kitchen and bathroom, great sense of design), convenient for Peak District walks, with nearby free car parking. Alison was quick to respond to inquiries and met me to check in. The heart of town is on your doorstep. Recommend Fresh Basil (just off the high street), Birds bakery, the two micro pubs, George's fish and chips and the Devonshire pub.

  • This was an utterly gorgeous flat. In a prime location, with several quirks that made the stay just so enjoyable. I loved the stairs being hidden behind a door, and the candles that switch on by twisting. The venue was amazing, and all the advice given by the host was perfect. Simply wonderful. 5 stars

No18 is a unique, welcoming home-from-home nestled in the heart of historic Belper with views of Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The house is ideally situated, only five minutes from the train station and the town centre with its popular high street. No 18 has been carefully renovated, using second-hand furniture and materials wherever possible and featuring work by local artists. All items in the house are for sale, so guests can take a souvenir home with them should they wish to!
In case it's not clear from the listing, we are committed to fair pricing and we charge a fixed nightly rate, which remains the same all year round. This means there is no confusing price structure to understand and those wanting to go away during the school holidays are not unfairly penalised. We're also committed to using second hand/repaired items wherever possible. This has created what we hope is a unique, contemporary & homely environment, with a strong design element. We support local artists by featuring their work on the walls and we believe in giving things a second chance that others might throw away. For example we fitted the kitchen units with old car door handles from the 1950s and the king-size bed in the loft was made by Tony from an old pine door and some timber left over from the loft conversion.
Our neighbourhhood is called 'The Clusters' and was built by Jedidiah Strutt for workers in the historic mills that still remain in Belper and form part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. George Street is one of three streets named after the Strutt sons and still retains a strong sense of community & historic charm. Our neighbours are friendly and always take the time to say hello. We kindly ask that guests respect our neighbours and that noise is kept to an acceptable level at night.
  • Tony's house in Belper is a lovely place to stay, a beautiful and quirky little spot in a great location. Tony was friendly and helpful, always available via text or in person. The house was clean and comfortable, a good size with all the amenities you could need. The only very slight downside is the narrow unmade road leading to the property, which can be uncomfortable to drive down and difficult to park on. However this didn't detract at all from what was a very enjoyable stay.

  • Wonderful stay to celebrate a 50th birthday. Central location close to all amenities and close to a big supermarket. The house was beautiful and quirky and had everything needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. would definitely recommend to other users. Thanks!!

  • An amazing house filled with fabulous decor and the most personal of touches from the flowers to the honesty hedgehog for the odd tipple! Spotlessly clean with brilliant facilities - I mean who doesn’t love a drop down projector next to a roaring fire! Tony and Rowan were excellent hosts and nothing was too much trouble - a brilliant place to stay!

  • When you experience this lovely comfortable well designed home you won’t want to go home. If we could we would’ve stayed longer. Close to town, lovely local shops, pubs & restaurants with friendly people and beautiful countryside with our family just around the corner. Rowen and Tony are great, friendly, considerate and helpful we had a fabulous stay so a great big thank you to them !

    Di2018-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Rowen & Tony’s place is stunning; really cosy and fun to be in. We had a great time relaxing, exploring the local area and further afield. Always in the knowledge that we had the best base to return to each night. In just 3 nights we played lots of family games, enjoyed quiet time, listened to music and cooked family meals, enjoyed evening sun in the garden and ate al fresco... in early April.

    Ben2019-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for 2 nights as we were going to a friends wedding nearby. Really lovely home, with everything we needed for a 2 comfortable stay, beautiful furnished and decorated.

  • Lovely unusual accommodation, clean, well situated within easy reach of the town, with lots of eateries. Lovely hosts. Would definitely recommend.

  • Rowen and Tony have the most fabulous taste - the house is stylishly decked out and so comfortable. I was staying with some members of my bridal party the two nights before my wedding and we couldn't have been more comfortable. Rowen & Tony made check-in very easy and only live two doors down, always making themselves available. We had a lovely stay and would absolutely recommend their place.

This is a small, modern, detached house with a conservatory and small garden. It takes 10-15 mins to walk into the centre of town where there is a railway station with trains to Derby and Matlock. Buses connect to Derby, Manchester, the Peak District and Nottingham. It is a quiet residential area but the town centre has pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and local businesses. The leisure centre is 10 mins walk. The town is World Heritage listed, being famous during the Industrial Revolution.
Small comfortable modern house with pleasant garden and conservatory for relaxing in. Single bedroom with additional bed stored under when not in use. Desk and chair for work - great views over Belper to distract you though! Tea and coffee making facilities, and access to kitchen for snacks. TV and DVD player in the living room and you are welcome to join us in the evenings.
Quiet residential area with occasional traffic. Great views over the outskirts of town, and everywhere in town is hilly! 5 mins by car or 10-15 mins walk to the town (using shortcuts!). Nearby pubs and leisure centre, parks and places to walk.
  • Fantastic stay with Jan and Fred. They were extremely friendly and the room was exactly as advertised. I booked last minute so was very impressed by how accommodating they both were. The room rate is very reasonable and the lovely breakfast made the stay even better value for money. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Situated in the beautiful Derbyshire town of Belper this is an historic house dating from the 1750s, set in a quiet lane by the river and a short flat walk into Belper town centre where there are many pubs, restaurants and amenities. There is easy access - by car, train and bus - to the Derwent Valley UNESCO World Heritage area and the Peak District, and the local cities of Derby and Nottingham, nearby towns/villages and there are many walks from the house door into the glorious countryside.
I live in a big house full of character but with modern facilities, big rooms and lots of light. The bedroom is within the main home and uses a shared entrance. The window looks out over the tiled patio and private garden. The bedroom has a double bed, tea & coffee making facilities, a wardrobe, shelving and bedside tables. If required, there is use of a desk and chair for working and using a laptop in the sitting room, for which there is plenty of space and light. The large contemporary bathroom is next to your bedroom - it includes a fabulous big shower and large separate bath. Breakfast includes tea, coffee, cereal, toast, preserves, milk, fruit, etc. I am pleased to cater for any dietary requirements. Guests can have breakfast in the sitting room (where there is also a television) or garden. The garden is in three parts with a tiled patio (a sun trap for the evenings after a day out or a day at work), a lawned area and a gravelled area leading to the water's edge. There is a summerhouse, trees, and the garden is full of plants and flowers. The house has free off street parking. This home is suitable for the B&B-er coming for a short stay but also for business people wanting short or long term accommodation as it has very easy links north to surrounding smaller towns, and south to Derby. For regular or long term stays I am open to discuss terms and prices - please message me.
Belper is a thriving, attractive and interesting ex-mill town. Throughout the year there are many festivals, and a monthly farmer's market. The industrial heritage of the town centres around the mills and workers houses of the Strutt family who developed the first iron-framed 'fire-proof' building in the world - the North Mill, which is one of the oldest surviving examples. The River Gardens are opposite my home on the other side of the river and full of plants and colour. This is a lovely place for a quiet, flat walk. There are also free concerts here every Sunday afternoon in the band-stand during summer. There are 68 places to eat and drink in Belper! This includes many pubs and bars which also serve food, many cafes which open from breakfast to late afternoon, many restaurants, delicatessens, a Co-op grocery store, and big stores of Aldi, Morrisons and B&M. There are many shops - from charity shops and well-known high street names, to a factory outlet in an old mill, an antiques centre in another mill, to individual boutiques selling clothes and speciality food. The Ritz cinema is a privately owned cinema showing current films in cosy seating, with mugs of tea/coffee, bottles of wine and cake on offer. There are also hairdressers, pharmacies, banks. I have lived in this area on and off all my life. I know the area well and would be delighted to advise on things to do in the local area and further afield into the Peak District and Derbyshire.
  • Just how you would expect an Airbnb / B&B to be: clean, comfortable, friendly and easy going host. The added bonus here is the location which was just out of town along a quiet lane by the river. Would certainly stay again when visiting.

    Paul2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Friendly and informal hosts. Comfortable house. Delightful sitting area by river.

  • Our stay at Jackie's beautiful home was perfect, she is a very attentive host and clearly genuinely cares about her guests, the house is gorgeous in a beautiful location. The spot at the bottom of the garden by the river is so picturesque and we spent most of the evening down there. Hugely reccomend staying here, Jackie will make you feel so at home!

''Long barn'' is a ground floor apartment, forming part of a 17th century converted barn in the courtyard of Court House Farm. Court House is situated in the centre of Chevin Golf course, affording peace and tranquillity with spectacular views. It is ideally suited to couples, golfers, families with teenage children, commuters and walkers. Long barn is quiet hideaway within walking distance of the upmarket village of Duffield. Duffield has pubs, restaurants, shops, parks and transport links.
The Long Barn, is an idyllic private rural retreat in the middle of a golf course yet close to all the amenities afforded by the upmarket country villages of Duffield and the market town of Belper.
The views, the peace ,the quiet and the privacy create a unique property.
  • Anita's lovely barn conversion is in the middle of a golf course, in the pretty village of Duffield surrounded by lovely Derbyshire countryside. The barn itself is comfortable and characterful and our stay was very peaceful and relaxing. We appreciated Anita's very warm welcome and we hope to return one day.

    Angela2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at Anita's, and it was even better than the first if that's possible. The converted barn sits high on a hill hidden behind a gold course, with amazing views that let you imagine you're in a land that time forgot. And then it only takes a minute to drive back into civilization--it's a magical combination.

    Bert2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Har har lige haft fem skønne dage i anita's lejlighed som ligger i et smukt og naturskønt område i Duffield. lejligheden var indrettet smagfuld og i en helt unik stil. Kan varmt anbefales og vil gerne komme der igen.

  • A lovely apartment, clean and modern. Perfect place for staying with friends, enjoying local walks and relaxing in the evening. Anita was very helpful and answered any questions I had quickly. Would recommend staying here to my friends.

  • Lovely quiet spot with plenty of space for chilling out. We’d love to go back again.

    Lucilla2018-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • A good base from which to explore Peak District . Good for 2 couples. Lovely & cosy with log burner in winter evenings! Anita responded quickly when we had questions or any issues that arose, she made it clear from our arrival she was available throughout our stay if we needed anything.

    Rosemary2017-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very special few days here. A top notch experience that is superior to staying in a hotel. The space is impressive, everything is high quality and the interior design is stylish. It is also very clean. The huge velux windows looking out to the countryside create a calm feel. But it is very close to Derby too so we could easily go out for dinner (ate at The Post House). The wood burner and jacuzzi style bath added a glamorous touch. I stayed in the barn for 3 nights over my wedding and I'm very glad I picked it. Stayed with a bridesmaid the night before. In the morning the rest of the bridesmaids and the hairdresser came round which was great fun. There was plenty of room and mirrors for 6 girls to do their make up and get ready. Then that night I swapped the bridesmaid for the groom! We went for a lovely country walk and pub lunch with the guests nearby (Holbrook) the day after the wedding and then stayed a final night before driving back to London. It was relaxing and Anita was very accomodating suggesting we checked out late for example. Her barn is across the courtyard, so close by but still you have privacy. Anita also stocked up with breakfast things tea bags and milk which was useful. We'd go back. Xxx

A quirky newly refurbished property set in the heart of Belper in Derbyshire, this is a great base for anyone wishing to stay on the edge of the peak district. "The Loft" is close to all local amenities such as shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants all within walking distance. we are situated within a 5 minute walk to the local train station and are on the main route for public transport.
  • Thank you for a lovely stay in the cosy loft. It is small but perfectly formed, and had everything that we needed for a few days away. The location is within easy reach of the town and lots of shops and restaurants, and Belper is the friendliest town I have visited. Sarah was a great host, and although we didn't meet her as she was away too, she messaged us before we arrived and as we were leaving, to ensure we had everything we needed. She made us feel very welcome. Would definitely stay at The Loft again.

    Kathryn2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had 4 adults stay in the Loft. It was perfect for two couples. The split level gives both sleeping areas privacy. Belper is a cute little town near the Peak District. We used it as a basecamp for walks around the Peak District. We did find that it is crucial to make reservations ahead of time on weekends and some places that advertise they serve food at a few of the pubs actually don't. Walking distance to the town center, the mill, and many pubs. Sarah was a wonderful host and we never had a hard time finding parking.

    Angela2017-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy little apartment, perfect for a few nights. Sarah was a friendly host who showed me around the apartment and recommended places to visit for food. Would stay again.

    Dan2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Loft was a lovely and comfortable home for our short family break. The property is spotless, newly done and full of tasteful details, you can tell how much care Sarah has put into it. Sarah's attentive, very friendly and prompt communication from the first contact to our departure was great and made us feel really welcome! We turned up with our bikes and both her and her husband Kevin were very helpful with sorting somewhere for us to safely store them. Thanks, a great home, very nice host, very much recommended!!

  • Sarah's place was fabulous we had a great time there and she was a fabulous host. Would highly recommend to all. Thank you Sarah

  • Nice and comfortable little house in two levels. Compact but smartly organized and all you need is provided for. Very clean. Whole house is newly decorated and well done. Set in a peaceful neighbourhood on walking distance from town centre. Good starting point to visit Peak District. 15min drive. Second bed is a comfortable sofabed. Two levels are open. This and the stairs make it les less suitable for families with toddlers.

    Carl2017-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • We just returned for an extremely relaxing and enjoyable trip to the lovely Belper. The Loft is located on a nice quiet street very close to the town centre. Well located to explore the Peak District, as well as being close enough (20 mins drive) to Derby. Plenty of restaurants locally, within a 10 mile radius. Very well decorated interior - all finished to an extremely high standard. I have to say that it was a shame that we only had so many days there. Everything you need is all in The Loft and had a very cosy feel to it. When we booked we immediately got a message from the lovely Sarah. And although she was away enjoying, probably, a well deserved break, she was excellent at communicating with us and responding to any of our questions. A lot of information was provided before and even during our stay at The Loft. We would definitely be recommending it to friends and family and will surely be back again to visit.

    Mitul2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at The loft was perfect, the location is amazing and Sarah was brilliant and so friendly! Checking in all the way through our stay and suggesting places to eat and drink! The perfect place for a getaway! Thank you for having us!

Mill cottage built in 1795 in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. Pubs, restaurants, country walks and the train station within walking distance. A perfect place to have a relaxing break. Feel like you've stepped back in time. No need for a car due to its easy accessibility. Great individual shops. Easy access to Chatsworth,Matlock, Bakewell,Gullivers World and Alton Towers.
This beautiful cottage has 3 floors and really is a home from home. There are traditional fireplaces and wooden beams so you really feel like you have stepped back in time. The lounge has a wood burner making it a cosy place to relax. There is a TV, DVD player, iPod player and a selection of DVD's and boardgames. There is a separate dining area and a fully equipped kitchen containing a gas hob and electric oven, microwave, toaster, toasted sandwich maker, bread maker and plenty of pans, cutlery and local Denby crockery. There are also flasks available to take on your country walks. Tea , coffee and biscuits are available and a carton of longlife milk so you can get the kettle on as soon as you arrive. The large bathroom on the first floor has a long bath with an overhead shower. There is an electric macerator toilet and therefore care must be taken to only put toilet paper in it otherwise it will break and there will be a charge to repair it. There is also a toilet downstairs in the out house area. The bedrooms are large situated on the first and second floors. Both have a double bed and there are 2 additional full size double Aerobeds available that can be put in each room on request and at an additional cost. There is also a travel cot available however bedding is not provided. Both bedrooms have a radio and one bedroom has a small TV. Information leaflets are available to plan your activities and make the most of all that there is to do in the local area. There are reading books as well as walking books and maps so you can fully explore the area. A washing machine is also available should need to wash any muddy clothes after a country ramble. There is full use of the garden and plenty of garden furniture so that alfresco dining can be enjoyed. WiFi is available.
Belper is a beautiful, friendly town with many independent shops such as an artisian bakery and a fabulous deli / cafe called Fresh Basil that I recommend for breakfast. There are a number of pubs within walking distance including the George and Dragon that has live music on a Friday and Saturday night. There are a great range of restaurants - Chinese, Thai, Italian, Indian, Tapas, carvery and numerous tea rooms. Belper also has the lovely independent Ritz cinema ( I recommend booking this in advance if you want to go - its worth it). There is local park with a childrens play area and row boat hire is available in the summer. The Peak district is on your doorstep, close to Chatsworth, Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell and Castleton where the famous Blue John Caves are making it a good base for walkers cyclists caving and rock climbing or if you are visiting Alton Towers. The Matlock Light Show in the Autumn is a short train journey from Belper. It may also be of interest if you have a business trip in Derby but don't want to stay in the city or working at Glowworm/Valliant or D S Smith that are close by.
  • This is a lovely cottage, completely as described. Felt like home. Very well kitted out, we didn’t need to go to the shop to get anything. Everything worked. Was a delightful stay.

  • Kirstine’s cottage was immaculate, characterful and very well appointed; and Kirstine was incredibly fast at communicating. We really appreciated our stay at this cosy cottage. It was our first time in Belper; and whilst we arrived late and left early, we thoroughly enjoyed Armando’s Italian (great food and service) for a late supper and our drive through the village and surrounding countryside in the morning has made us want to return and explore soon!

  • I believe all the reviews are quite accurate and there is little to add. Kristine's place can easily take you back. It's a lovely house and my Luv and I spent the night watching Dirty Dancing... very romantic and helped us forget about the weather outside. Would definitely recommend to a friend. Also, worth noting is that the place was very clean with nice touches here and there. Clearly Kristine cares about her guests.

This spacious cottage is a great place to hang out, explore historic Belper on foot and visit Derbyshire's many attractions.
The cottage overlooks the river gardens and is very close to the 18c water mill and river walks. Within 200 m there are two excellent restaurants (17 & 18c) and many more beyond. The cottage has 2 large living rooms (4m x 4m) one with a log burner adjacent to the kitchen and a lounge/dining room with the TV/DVD. There are two large double bedrooms tastefully furnished with 2 double beds and an additional single bed if required.
Just a short walk away is the river gardens and the 18c water mill, part of the Derwent valley world heritage region.
  • This house is a gorgeous cottage located in one of the most idyllic towns in Derbyshire. It's excellent value for money in a fantastic location. The cottage was very clean and it felt like a home. I would recommend staying here!

  • 5 of us stayed here as a base for a meet up of old friends. The location was perfect being able to walk to restaurants and pubs and also only half an hour for amazing walks in the peak District. The house has loads of useful items in the kitchen which was great. We were warm and cosy despite the weather!

  • My friends and I had a lovely chilled out weekend in Roy's cosy cottage. It was well situated just a short walk out of Belper, with countryside on tour doorstep. The house was well supplied with everything you could need for a short weekend away or longer (milk, few bits and bobs in fridge, tea/coffee, oil, condiments, some alcoholic drinks). The bedrooms were comfortable. The bathroom was well supplied with necessities and had a lovely view of the nearby gardens! We noticed games and toys for children, and there was a stock of DVDs, so plenty to keep a family amused. The owners have also supplied an Amazon fire stick and a Netflix account which was a bonus. A log burning fire in one of the lounges topped it off. We would highly recommend this Rental. For the price, it is a choice find.

  • Fantastic and cosy cottage. The heating works very well and the bed in the master bedroom is extremely comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking etc and overall the place is great. The view from the bathroom window is fantastic too! I'd definitely stay again! Thanks Roy!

  • It was cosy and comfortable. We spent wonderful bank holiday weekend.

    Denitsa2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Just back from a lovely weekend in Belper. Roy's cottage was everything and more. It had a real home from home feel. We could have stayed so much longer. We had booked to go to Thomas Land about 30 miles away and the only thing we couldn't arrange was the weather - it poured - which means we will just have to come back again and would definitely book the cottage again. We had a party of 5 - 3 adults and 2 young boys. There was toys and books for all ages - we enjoyed a few board games by the log fire on Saturday night. Roy was in touch throughout our booking and stay. Thank you again. It was worth the long drive :)

Lovely kitchen with everything you’ll need, spacious lounge with BIG TV and super comfy sofa. Conservatory that opens onto garden with lovely views of the countryside. Shower and bath upstairs, big comfy bedroom too with Alexa. Quite road, tucked away in corner, parking right outside house, peaceful and once again, PERFECT! Will certainly be back.

Some great touches on arrival a lovely greeting pack etc. The cottage is in a good position within walking distance of the town shops and some great restaurants and is in a great position to access all of the peaks and dales etc. Great I would highly recommend what more can I say we look forwards to staying again.

  • Very impressive finish with great view over the town. Not large but very cosy. The dining room floor is something to see. Very quiet and great real pub 300 yds up road.

    Sophie2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely spacious cottage. We were a family of 5 adults and there was enough space for all of us. Rooms were all of a good size and the property is in a great location. Go one way and you have a lovely walk down to the town, go the other and you are then in glorious countryside. The garden area is lovely and I would imagine is a sun trap in the summer. Communications from Michael were excellent and their flexibility on arrangements was greatly appreciated. Can't fault this accommodation.

This charming, 2 bedroomed Grade II listed stone cottage was built around 1815 by the owner of the local mills to house his workers. Enjoying a quiet, elevated position with fabulous views overlooking the Derwent Valley, this characterful cottage with many original features is located within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site and a local conservation area. Milford is an ideal base for walking and touring the Peak District and other local attractions.
A cosy cottage with stunning views and a home from home feel.
Milford was once a quiet hamlet in a part of the large deer forest that spread from Duffield to Wirksworth, until Jedediah Strutt set up a water powered cotton mill here and built housing for his workforce. Some of the housing still remains in Hopping Hill but much of the mill building was demolished between 1952 and 1964, including the cruciform warehouse of 1793, the second of Strutt's fire proof buildings with brick arch floors, timber beams and iron pillars. The bridge, with its two segmental arches was built around 1790 but widened in 1906 and is still carrying heavy traffic. The area is part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The village is situated in the Derwent Valley between Duffield and Belper with the A6 running through its centre. There are a few local public houses within walking distance and an Italian restaurant in Milford plus a village store/coffee shop. Local information can also be found at www.milford-makeney.org/

  • What a lovely cottage! So cozy (but not cramped), amazing view, and walkable to a few places to eat. Overall an absolutely wonderful stay!

  • Maye Cottage offers the visitor the opportunity to share in some of Belper’s/ Milford’s history by staying in a millworker’s dwelling built by the Strutt family. The views from the bedrooms were very impressive, particularly the snow covered hills in the distance. The cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived which was greatly appreciated on a cold day. The furniture was really comfy and the log burner was an added bonus making the cottage very cosy. The kitchen was well equipped and provided everything we needed. There was good WiFi. We enjoyed a relaxing few days back in my hometown and my beloved Derbyshire.

    Maureen2019-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a quaint little cottage that is full of charm and character. The beds were comfortable and the amenities were good. The view across the Derwent valley is spectacular and the cottage is surrounded by picturesque gardens. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

  • Samantha has decorated this beautiful traditional cottage with lots of welcoming touches. There is everything you could wish for in a holiday let including a lovely terraced garden equipped with deck chairs. The location of the cottage is stunning and there is so much more to explore in the locality from the Industrial Heritage of the mills and canals, to wonderful walks with fabulous vistas. For keen shoppers there are also designer outlets on the doorstep. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.

  • We had a fabulous stay in Milford! A lot of up and down walking in the area but we needed a good workout after a few pints at the pub in Belper, The Tavern just up the road 20 min walk! So much to see in Derbyshire, would definitely recommend Maye Cottage !

    Colleen2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Samantha’s place for one night following attending a wedding, I wish we could have stayed longer as this place is lovely. A tiny but well equipped cosy little cottage with comfy beds, log burner and lovely wooden shutters. The cutest little kitchen I’ve ever seen. Everything was very clean and well looked after. The location is lovely-a quiet spot along a quaint terrace of houses with amazing views of the countryside-and the river from the top window! Samantha was quick to reply to messages and very friendly-would highly recommend!

Milford historic village is a great destination choice! The Garden Apartment is a cosy retreat in a country cottage with private garden and scenic views across the valley. Perfect for visiting Derbyshire's Peak District National Park, our many National Trust and historic houses, and handy too for the city of Derby. Good pubs, restaurants and shops in the area. Longer stays are discounted... Please enquire for more information as we'd like to welcome you!
The Apartment is part of our 18th century cottage and enjoys panoramic views across the river valley and historic Milford village. Our stone-built cottage in Derbyshire's Peak District is Grade II listed and situated midway along the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site - the Valley that changed the World! [Its nomination by UNESCO was in recognition of the area's particular architecture and its distinctive landscape.]
The village is well provided with pubs and restaurants. The town of Belper [1 mile away] won the Nation's 'Best High Street' for its variety of shops and facilities. Country walks start from your door, with good public transport links for travelling further afield in the Peak District. Local buses run every 15 minutes and the Trans Peak service from Derby to Buxton is hourly. Ashbourne and Dovedale are a short drive and worth a trip to see the famous sights there. Chatsworth House - home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire is a great place to visit along with many other National Trust and English Heritage properties nearby for great days out. Kedleston Hall, Hardwick Hall and Haddon Hall to name just a few! And Derbyshire has provided picturesque settings for many films recent years.
  • A great space for a couple, we’ll placed for exploring the Peak District and local area of Milford and Belper. Thanks for the fresh flowers and delicious eggs!

There is everything one could potentially need. There are many things to see and do nearby, both locally and in the Peak District which is obviously quite close. The only disappointing thing was that our stay was over!

3 story cottage built in 1770. In a World heritage site to preserve the legacy of it's ties to the industrial revolution. Stunning scenery with views from the house and patio. Great local walks including the Chevin, an old Roman road, which can be seen from the house itself. A 20 minute drive to Cromford, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, and 45 minute drive to Chatsworth a House and Gardens. The Peak District can easy be accessed from the house via the A6 which runs nearby. One of our local pubs, The Holly Bush, is a 16th century hostelry which serves a range of real ales from jugs. If you are a city person, Derby is a 20 minute bus ride away and Nottingham 45 minutes. There are 2 local train stations which can take you via Nottingham and Derby to anywhere in the UK. My home is ideally suited to anyone who would like to explore the Peak District, a beautiful National Park, with something for everyone. Whilst I am happy to host, I would also be happy to let out the whole house for a family. I am a social media junkie, so communication is not going to be a problem! I will be happy to give any advice or tips where needed but equally recognise that this is your break so I will keep a respectful distance. Should you wish to rent the whole house, I will be here to welcome you. I have travelled the world independently and have friends in many countries. I look forward to meeting you! Milford is a beautiful place to live with something for everyone. See guest access section for more information.
  • A wonderful cottage full of character in a beautiful location. The bed could do with being a bit softer but that is only my personal preference. Otherwise everything exactly as the ad. Penelope was most helpful in answering any questions had prior to arrival.

    Kevin2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Penelope’s house as we were guests at a family wedding a few miles away. Communications were excellent, Penelope got back to us quickly and gave us detailed information about getting there, parking, etc. She was also very flexible about check-in and check-out times which was a huge bonus, especially on the day of arrival, as the wedding very much dictated our schedule. The cottage itself is a historic 200 year old back-to-back cottage, arranged over three storeys, overlooking the village of Milford, the river, and scenic countryside. It was great to have a breakfast, warm and cosy, looking out across the wintry landscape. Overnight, it was lovely and warm, and very quiet - we could just about hear the river in the valley, but no traffic or other noise. The bed was a quite firm as other guests have commented, but we both had a good night’s sleep. Our only regret was that we were only there one night. Thank you Penelope!

    Dawn2018-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed my stay at Pen's place. Lovely home close to Belper, exactly as described full of character. Sparkling clean and stunning views from window. Sadly didn't meet Penelope as she was away but she had left everything just perfect. Highly recommended.

  • Secluded, quiet & lovely views across the valley. Really interesting history too. Great breakfast spread. Close to a good pub/Italian restaurant & a short walk from a really great one (Holly Bush). Bed a bit hard for my liking but otherwise a fantastic stay - wish we could have stayed for more than one night.

A beautiful renovated chapel on the edge of the Peak District with a huge, light open plan living space upstairs and four good sized bedrooms including one en suite and a family bathroom downstairs (we call it an 'upside down' house!) Ideally set up for families and groups of friends, it is nestled within the pretty village of Milford within walking distance to local pubs and parks and a 5 minute drive from the shops and amenities of Belper.
A unique converted chapel with three bedrooms and a playroom / kids bedroom downstairs, huge open plan kitchen / living space upstairs, one en suite shower room, one family bathroom with bath and shower, small back garden and decking area and desk area in open plan space upstairs.
We’re nestled within a small, close-knit community close to Belper and on the edge of the beautiful Peak District. The nearest city is Derby.

  • Sal is a wonderful host. She is always on the end of her messages and has really clear instructions about the home and surrounding area. I really enjoyed the circular walk with sheep and horses along the way. Sales home is a real luxury, unique place which it was a real pleasure to stay in. I'd highly recommend .

    Verity2018-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Really amazing space with a great amount of toys etc. for children. Sal was really prompt with her communication and the location was a great base from which to explore the area.

    Laura2019-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • What a stunning house! A really stylish open-plan upstairs living space where everyone could be together. Plenty of games and toys for our little kids, they were thrilled. Very comfy beds, plenty of hot water, very clean and toasty warm. Good location - easy walk to swings, a pub and a small cafe/shop. Less than 10 minutes drive to Belper town centre where there are supermarkets, shops, a swimming pool, beautiful riverside walk and an excellent soft play. Later in the year I think the other local attractions will be open too, and there’ll be plenty to do. Lovely walking options around too. Parking and access were tricky because of road closures, but these will soon be finished and then I imagine on-street parking near by will be back to normal. Prompt and helpful communication from Sal. Overall a great time, thanks.

  • We had a fantastic time at this home, it is well equipped and provides a great base for exploring Derbyshire. We would recommend it to anyone.

Magnolia Cottage is a Grade II listed 240 year old cottage located on the cobbled street of Long Row in the historical town of Belper. We have carefully renovated this beautiful stone home, trying to keep as much character and history as possible. We absolutely love our cottage, and look forward to sharing it with anyone interested in having a relaxing break in the countryside, Less than 10 minutes walk from Belper bus and train stations
There are 2 sets of stairs leading to the 2nd floor bedroom. The 2nd floor bedroom has a king sized bed and the 1st floor has a double sized bed. The living room is furnished to be comfortable and cozy. We have mixed a few local history pieces with more modern pieces to create a place that fills everyones needs. We also have a large selection of DVD's for you to enjoy. The smart TV is available for you to watch Netflix if you have an account. Very good wifi from every room. The bedrooms both have lovely views of the countryside and the 2nd floor bedroom overlooks the East Mill. This cottage is perfect for hikers and walkers. We are located at the gateway to the Peak District, and in less than 5 minutes you can pick up a footpath leading to Cromford and Matlock If you are planning to stay for a longer visit we can arrange for our local cleaner to visit for an extra charge.
Belper is a historic town, with small shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The Ritz is a lovely independent movie theatre, all are a 5-10 minute walk away. There are many hikes and walks nearby. What makes it so special here are the friendly neighbors and their sense of pride about the area. If you are looking for a place to have a party and make a lot of noise please look elsewhere! The beauty of this cottage is the quietness and peacefulness that surrounds it.
  • My wife, daughter and I were so happy with the house. It’s located walking distance for a number of pubs and restaurants as well as the Belper high street. The house had everything we could need and was spotlessly clean and so comfortable.

  • Okay place , walking distance from town centre , I didn’t enjoy it much myself as building isn’t very functional as per its age but it’s an okay place to stay , bit pricey for what it is in my view but it did the job .

  • Lovely house over 3 floors, spacious rooms, nicely decorated and cosy. Great town location and near to train station. Good amenities, clean and clear instructions. Parking nearby. Friendly neighbourhoods. Near to restaurants and pubs. Great recommendations especially the Elaichi restaurant (Bangladeshi fusion)... super tasty food!! For breakfast, we can recommend the book cafe opposite the Morrison supermarket..superb food and friendly staffs. Near visit/ walk/ trail we wanted to visit- Bakewell, Over Haddon Lartkill dales trail, Monsal Trail..and of course Belper. Beautiful area..

  • Heidi's cottage is in a great location, just a short walk to the town centre and the river gardens. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has a lovely garden. There is a train line just a few doors away that does spoil the peace and quiet for a few seconds throughout the day. It would have been slightly better if there was comfortable seating for 4 adults in the lounge. The rocking chair is not a great place to relax! We had a lovely stay and would definitely return if we were to visit the area again.

High quality Bed & Breakfast accommodation in a 1828 period, stone-built, Grade II Listed, Nailmaster's Residence set in half-acre secluded formal gardens in Belper's historic Conservation Area. The three bedrooms, 2 x D, 1 Twin (all en-suite)
About the Cedars... In the late 18th century, Belper was the nailmaking centre of Britain, with over 500 nailers working around the town. The ‘Nailmaster’ of Belper, Abram Harrison, built himself a grand house on a small farm between Jedediah Strutt’s mill village and the town of Belper, and this house, originally called ‘Field House’, is now known as The Cedars. The parkland, walled gardens, and cedar trees once surrounding the house were long ago reduced to the present half an acre of mature formal gardens and terracing - a peaceful retreat of trees and lawns in the historic heart of Belper. The Cedars has a colourful history: A Silversmith lived here at the turn of the century; a judge owned the house before the First World war; it was strafed by enemy planes in WWII; the house became Belper Clinic after the war, and after a period in the 1980s as the HQ of a local building firm, The Cedars became the Headquarters of Deb Chemicals PLC. In 1996, Neil and Ann Wayne took on the task of turning this last of the great town-houses of Belper back into a family home. There were no bathrooms, no kitchen, all fireplaces were long gone, the cellars lay unopened since 1921, and much of the original Regency character and detailing had been lost from the interiors.
Belper’s famed River Gardens, Visitor Centre and Heritage Centre are a short stroll and the fine scenery and attractions of the “White Peak” and Peak National Park are but a short drive; why not visit Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, Kedleston Hall, The Tramway Museum, Alton Towers, the spa town of Buxton or the caves of Castleton during your stay?
  • Neil is fantastic! The cedar house was historic and comfortable. Local pubs and eaterys were a plenty. Lovely place to stay.

  • For starters the place is 5minutes walk from Belper station. We felt really welcome in The Cedars; the place has a nice decadent style, the rooms were warm and clean, they even had a kettle with different kinds of tea and biscuits..! There are some nice pubs in the area, that we enjoyed very much the night we arrived, and it's close by car to some interesting places like the Heights of Abraham and Matlock Bath. We 100% recommend a visit to The Cedars.

    Ignacio2016-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • A great place with everything you could want for your stay. Neil goes outbox of his way to ensure you have what you require during your stay.

  • Stayed here for one night as my girlfriend and I were attending a wedding in the area. Lovely room with all necessary facilities and a fantastic view. Neil communicated excellently throughout the whole process and was on hand to help and answer questions during the stay. Accommodated our request for a veggie breakfast which was filling and tasty. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we were in the area. Bonus points for the wonderful Bobby the cat in the garden!

    Jason2015-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Really good value and Neil was a great host. Will stay again if in the area.

  • A character house in a history filled town

    LYNNE2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • As my first experience with AirBnB, this stay was extremely pleasurable. Neil's communication was excellent. His house is a gem nestled in a very quiet residential area but very close to the town centre. His recommendations on places to eat and drink was spot on. Overall, my only regret was that I only stayed the one night - I will stay again in the future when in the area.

    Paul2016-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • A very enjoyable stay. The Cedars is a lovely guest house, equipped with all you need including wi-fi. Very clean warm and comfortable. Neil is an excellent host and very helpful. I would totally recommend a stay at the Cedars and look forward to staying there again

Alton Towers, Chatsworth and Kedleston Hall and Haddon Hall are all under 30 minutes. It can host 20 guests, for a 4-Day or a 7-Day stay. Shops, pubs, restaurants are all within 200 yards.
Two spacious Lounges, a Sauna, and 8+1 bedrooms for up to 20 guests
Belper is a small and characterful market town, in the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills' World Heritage site. The active local council stages Food Fairs, Farmers' Markets, Beer Festivals and poetry trails within the town.
  • The garden is beautiful and the main common room light and spacious. The venue recently added having towels available as a service and they were a nice size and felt nice to use. It took us a while to figure out how to use the heating system, but once we did, plenty of hot water was available. One thing that could make this venue even better is if they were able to upgrade from a coin system for paying for light and heat. I felt anxious the whole time about running out and was constantly watching the machine! Overall, a good visit with ample time to cook, eat, do yoga and meditate.

  • Good place for a large family gathering. Children loved it.

    Margaret2018-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • A very spacious property which is good for a big group. Large lounge upstairs with plenty of sofas and comfortable chairs. Front garden with table and chairs and a bbq. Good location in Belper near to the local shops and restaurants, and a nearby lake where you can hire boats. However the owners did ask for my address which was bizarre (and against air bnb policy and air bnb advise against giving this) and the letting agency that act on behalf of the owner replied when I asked why: ‘All guests at all the properties are asked for their address whether AirB&B or from whatever source. As owners who are renting out their properties to strangers I do not think that having an address is out of order’ Also to note the information pack says 5 cars could be parked but this was not possible as would entail blocking the neighbour’s car.

  • This is a cheap and cheerful place, really well located in Belper, the suspended ceilings and grouting in the showers could use some updating. We had a big family holiday and loved the central common area. The kitchen is really well equipped, there's not much outdoor space, but enough for a b and Neil and Ann are very responsive and helpful hosts.

    Mike2018-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fun stay overall. Perfect for exploring the peaks and the lovely countryside of Derbyshire. House is the very lovely market town of Belper. Belper has everything you could possibly need. The house is hidden by a road of shops, pubs and takeaways - well hidden away but incredibly central Layout is quirky to say the least but it’s actually perfect for large groups who want a huge communal area yet private space too. Plenty of space to sit and relax as well as private sleeping areas. If you are traveling with young children- be aware there are stairs everywhere. It’s hard to block them all off. Good facilities- but be aware you need many many £1 coins for the electricity meter and the car park. The house was clean and tidy. The decor is tired (but accurately described) but everything was comfortable and in working condition We would happily stay here again.

    Dawn2018-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for an affordable gathering of friends but the house could do with some updating and extra amenities.

200 year old, three-storey mill-worker's cottage, an easy 5 minute walk from Belper town centre and the train station, with links to the Peak District, Derby and beyond one double bedroom, a sofa in the living room and a couple of inflatable mattresses which can be made up as a double in the attic room. Max group size 4 adults
A three-storey terraced cottage. This is my home, which is mostly available when the wanderlust takes me elsewhere. Just to be clear, this is my home, where I live. If staying in someone else's home makes you feel uncomfortable, then this isn't the place for you. There's a double bedroom, a sofa in the living room and floor space with inflatable mattresses available in another two rooms (normally made up as a double bed in the attic), with bedding and towels for everyone. (Although it's certainly not a big house by any means, and there's only the one bathroom.) Maximum group size is 4 adults (insurance restrictions). Downstairs is the living room, with sofa (sofa bed if needed) and the all important wood burner: in the winter there will be a basket full of wood, with firelighters and kindling. A step up takes you into the kitchen, with electric hob and fan oven, fridge and washing machine in the galley area towards the back door and a freezer under the stairs. The back garden (more of a yard really, as it's mosly paved) is up steps out of the back door, a real suntrap during the day in the summer. Feel free to use the herbs from the garden or to take chairs out there to sit in the sun. The 'bathroom' is off the kitchen: a bit of a misnomer, as there is no bath tub, but the shower is hot and has great pressure. Stairs take you up to the first floor, where there is a west-facing double bedroom and a small office, from where more stairs take you up to the attic room. The attic gets the morning light, as it faces east, and makes for a great place to sit with a book and a glass of wine in the evening. If needed, there are a couple of inflatable single mattresses, with plenty of floor space for them up here (can be made up as a double) or there's space for a single in the office (if you really need it). The office also makes a good place to put a travel cot, if you have tiny people but don't want them in the same bedroom as you... If you're travelling with kids, there's a great park just down the road, literally 50 metres away, which keeps nephews and nieces occupied for ages. What I don't have is any dining space: it's an eat off your lap house, I'm afraid. On-street parking.
Belper is a great little town, far enough out of Derby to have a life of its own, not too far from the Peak District National Park. Belper has a thriving town centre (Britain's Best High Street 2014, no less!), with a good deli (Fresh Basil) that also does a great cooked breakfast, small cinema (Ritz), a couple of supermarkets, excellent off-licence (Liquid Treasure), old fashioned sweet shop, plenty of the usual eateries (curry houses, chinese takeaways, a thai and bistro-type dining at 'Nourish at No. 44'), greengrocers, butchers, bakers (no candlestick maker that I know of, I'm afraid). There's a monthly farmers' market a 5 minute walk from the house on the 2nd Saturday of each month (go for the ostrich burgers and cinnamon donuts), an annual arts festival in May, food festival in July and visiting fun fair. The town is in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, with East Mill down on the river home to a nesting pair of Peregrines, who often fly over the house! And for those who need their fix of the big city, Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leicester are all an easy train ride away, and the Trans Peak bus service takes you to Manchester (although it takes its time...).

  • My two girl friends and I had a great time staying in Philips place. Although we didn't actually meet Philip he was a great host. He contacted us before accepting our request to stay to warn us that the property was small; this was much appreciated although didn't bother us at all. The property is small but not uncomfortably so. There was plenty of room for the 3 of us. A note welcoming us to the property was on the table when we arrived with helpful instructions on how things around the house functioned. The milk, bread and wine on arrival was perfect after a traffic filled journey. The travel related artwork added a great touch to the place and the fire made for a good cosy night in. Thanks very much!

  • Unique character cottage situated in a lovely town with lots to do. Fab host who is accomodating and responds quickly to any queries. Thoughtfully left us bread, butter, tea, coffee, OJ and wine to help when first arrive.

  • Thank you Philip for a lovely stay. Words can't describe how lovely and cosy Philip's house is. Great location, nice walks and relaxing weekend. Highly recommend this house.

  • A fantastic little cottage perfect for exploring a beautiful part of the world. Phillip made us feel very welcome, complete with providing a bottle of wine, orange juice, bread and milk. Also great to have a play park at the bottom of the road within view of the front door.

    Rachel2016-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice cosy cottage to stay for a hiking weekend in the peaks or simply going around Belper. Philip was very accommodating about the check-in and check-out.

    Sarah2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place, it was so cute and quirky, but so well arranged and organised you'd barely notice it's a small cottage. The decor is fab, and the welcome pack on arrival was very easy and clear and we even had a bottle of bubbly too :) We did have to double check on arrival that we definitely had the house to ourselves because it's quite obviously Philip's house! It's a few minutes walk to shops and cafes and also just a minute or two from amazing walks and playgrounds for kids, really you couldn't get a better location. Thanks Philip and family!

    Talia2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little house, really quirky touches like all the travelling nik naks and cool pictures make this place a must. Philip could not have been more helpful after I was let down by another airbnb at the last minute despite him being abroad! Log burner was really cosy, ample room for 2 in the main bedroom double and 2 upstairs in the attic room. This is philips home so it has everything you might require. Watch your head if like me you are over 6 foot and a bit clumsy!!

  • This was a return visit. Robert is a kind and hospitable host who had several good recommendations for pubs and places to go (the Hollybush and the King William are especially good), and even took us on a tour of the area one morning. It's a great base to explore Derbyshire. We really enjoyed staying at his cottage and hope to return again.

He gave us some really good tips of places we could visit during our stay and we ended up having a great weekend, lovely country side walks and pubs around! He was also very kind to bring us a gift from the car boot sale he visited - will be spending the next weekend watching some great movies!! Definitely recommend a stay :)
